“harder to detect”

maybe for 2nd world countries like the U.K., but doubt if detection is as big a problem for the worlds only remaining superpower.

The F-35.
Naming ships after Harvey Milk and Cesar Chavez.
Building useless ships like the LCS.
Building ridiculously expensive ships like the USS Zumwalt.
Not to mention we have had constant low intensity warfare and the ensuing wear and tear on people and equipment.

Great.

I’d rather have the Cuisinart

Besides we have to have a state of war or something like it, before we start violating their airspace.
The problem with solid fuel rockets is that they are easy to store and quick to launch. You can deploy, shoot and scoot.
If they have really mastered solid fuel rockets and nukes to stick on top of them, then Norks can get their missiles launched almost before we are aware they are being readied.
Or they can screw with us, by deploying them, making grandiose statements, then putting back in their shelters.
Finally, they can share the technology with Iran giving them rapid strike capability.

I stand (somewhat) corrected. When I said “DOD program”, I should have said ACAT acquisition program. I knew that the technology exists, but moving the enormous inertia that is DOD acquisition in a militarily useful direction is a whole different challenge.

Agreed. Replacing the fighter mafia with drones is going to be a huge undertaking. Is the F-35 the last manned US fighter? Not if the jet jockies get their way.
