Pork industry says not to worry about a bacon shortage

They actually did find a plant that has the same texture and taste as bacon.

Discovered about 2 years ago. A couple of guys were investigating a cheap food source for use in abalone farming. The abalone usually eat kelp from the ocean, but really liked a reddish-brown thick leaved seaweed that grows off the pacific coast. After feeding it to the sea snails for a year or so, one of the researchers tried eating some and found that it tastes exactly like bacon; his taste findings were verified by 15 or 20 of his friends. So, I guess you actually can grow bacon.
