TRUMP WARNS ISRAEL: STOP ANNOUNCING NEW SETTLEMENTS

e warned Israel on Thursday - in a surprising statement - to cease settlement announcements that are "unilateral" and "undermining" of President Donald Trump's effort to forge Middle East peace, a senior administration official told The Jerusalem Post.

For the first time, the administration confirmed that Trump is committed to a comprehensive two-state solution to the Israeli- Palestinian conflict negotiated between the parties.

The official told the Post that the White House was not consulted on Israel's unprecedented announcement of 5,500 new settlement housing units over the course of his first two weeks in office.

"As President Trump has made clear, he is very interested in reaching a deal that would end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and is currently exploring the best means of making progress toward that goal," the official said.

"With that in mind, we urge all parties to refrain from taking unilateral actions that could undermine our ability to make progress, including settlement announcements," the official added. "The administration needs to have the chance to fully consult with all parties on the way forward."

Trump plans to bring up the peace process in his meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House scheduled for February 15.

Maybe Trump wants to be that guy that finally gets the “Peace Deal” signed?

Makes sense to the extent that you don’t want to show your cards before the game — or in this case the negotiations — start.

Don’t know... would want to hear it from the horse’s mouth too.

But notice too that Trump is reported saying stop ANNOUNCING the settlements. Not stop PLANNING them. Don’t force Trump’s hand.

Hope this is wrong. I hope Trump recognizes Israel’s right to settle or do whatever it wants to within its sovereign nation and that he recognizes there is NO “two-state solution” to the Israeli- Palestinian “conflict”.

The “conflict” consists of the Palestinians declaring Israel as a invalid nation and death to the Jews while Israel tries to peacefully manage its sovereign nation. It is not so much a “conflict” as incessant attacks on Israel’s sovereignty by the Palestinians and other Muslim nations who hate Israel.

The U.S. must stand on the side of her ally Israel, the only free and democratic nation in the Middle East, against all encroachments to Israel as a sovereign nation.

I hope it is true. Well done, President Trump. I did not approve of the embassy move, but am pleased that you intend to get something in return. Always in the hunt for a good deal.

It reminds me of that scene in Despicable Me 2 were Gruel kept announcing his attack and his eventual wife kept counter attacking.

As a settler myself living in Gush Etzion, you can trust me when i say that most of the palestinians are thrilled at the announcement of 2500 new homes—because they are the ones who do the building. The building business is booming here and its steady labor for the Arabs. Believe me, the palis benefit the most from building settlements—no exaggeration.

AS if Israel’s new bff, Saudi Arabia (okay, I’m joking a little), cares anything about settlements. They at worried about Iran. Also, one cannot appease Muslim Arabs. As counter intuitive as that sounds, they will rub your face in it if you appease them. Lots of people besides Pres. Trump do not understand this.
