If the state’s most famous rodent, Gen. Beauregard Lee, is to be trusted, spring will come early and the Atlanta Falcons will win the Super Bowl.

Gen. Lee wiggled awake at Gwinnett County’s Yellow River Game Ranch early Thursday to find no shadow, meaning an early spring.

I hope so. My stupid peach trees here in North East Georgia are budding out already. Another really cold day and no peaches this year for me.

Here in Houston, it has been spring since before Christmas. We basically had no winter this year. A shame, because we were looking to save some A/C in the off-season.

We had a pretty heavy snow here in NC in early January, been frequently overcast since, I suspect we’ll see a few more measurable snowfalls. Winter cold snaps are usually cold and dry here, not a cloud in the sky. Not this year, they’ve been cloudy. So, it stands to reason that winter’s not over yet for us, no matter how the birds and crocuses might be behaving right now.
