I used to shop there all the time.

Like most malls, the ‘undesirable’ element has taken over.

Unarmed, get the heck out of the way. Don’t get involved.

“An unarmed man attempted to stop the robbery and was shot and killed.”

Don’t remember if Rolling Oaks is a no-carry mall. But if an unarmed person tried to stop the robbery, this being San Antonio, he was probably military.

Yeah, speaking as a defenseless NYer, if I was IN the store with my wife, thought this guy was ready to use his gun, and there was only ONE, I would go for it.

Otherwise, the only part of me that would be seen is my sneaker marks.

Horrible about the unarmed man getting killed. Sounds like somebody started shooting wildly judging by the 6 injured, unless that’s just flying glass. Glad the armed person was apparently able to do some good.

Few details in the story, have to wait for more updates.

If the other suspect actually gets caught. Unfortunately, San Antonio had a big surge in murders last year, many of which remain unsolved. The local police department has a growing cold-case backlog.

I believe that Rolling Oaks Mall is a Simon Mall property.

“Possession of any weapon at Simon malls, whether concealed or displayed openly, is in violation of mall policy. This policy is intended first and foremost to maintain a safe, secure and comfortable environment at our malls, which has always been our top priority, and to avoid any situation that could potentially place at risk the safety of our shoppers and employees.”

I know this will devolve into a discussion of tactics, etc. But the bottom line, is that a brave Texan dove straight in and fought, and lost his life. Another one pulled a pistol and also resisted.

He’s as much a hero as anyone who ever fought Santa Anna. To dive in like that. God accept his Texan spirit.

I have an outdoor mall I will go to, another mall I loved in Memphis became crime central. Losing your life for some clothes and other things.....not worth it. My friend says no one will go to events in Memphis w/ her due to the high crime. Sad that people have ruined simple pleasures for law abiding people.

“At least both will be tried for murder.”

The second shooter was, according to eavesdroppers on the police band, a Hispanic male wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans.

It will be hard to find him, especially if returns to south of the border.

But what is it with malls? Creeps have taken them over.

Shopping malls, like public swimming pools, are a manifestation of a fairly cohesive civil culture, with the concept of a "social contract" that is accepted by all but a very tiny minority, "tiny" meaning something like one or two tenths of a percent.

If that percentage rises to two or three percent, things like shopping malls and public swimming pools go out the window.
