Yet Another Reason I'm Delighted to Be Retired and Not Part of This Libtard Folly (vanity)
The UFT Delegate Assembly in NYC 1/18/17 | 1/19/17 | Me, myself, & I

Posted on 01/19/2017 7:35:42 PM PST by EinNYC

This is a partial transcript of a certain caucus of the United Federation of Teachers which I did not vote for in the last elections because, in addition to their proposed actions to defend teachers, they also wanted to spend their time and resources on social justice issues. Being skinned for $1300/year in dues, I felt that UFT business should be on TEACHERS and what must be done to defend them so that they can devote their time to writing excellent lesson plans and not have to worry about vindictive principals. If people wanted to participate or contribute to their favorite social justice causes, do it on your own time and your own dime.

But certain candidates for this social justice loving caucus WERE elected to the UFT Delegate Assembly and THIS is what they spend their time and energy on---just as I predicted. What they are proposing is 100% ILLEGAL and protects criminal invaders to our country, in addition to wasting money on special liaisons to the criminals. I am sharing this to show how absolutely FURIOUS I am at this libtard nonsense, waste of resources and money, and contribution to criminality in opposition to the law. I am soooo glad to be severed from the utterly corrupt and destructive NYC public school system AND the libtard union. Of course, there are some few sensible members of the union, but we are few in number.

This first resolution on protecting our immigrant students and members was raised on behalf of Caucus X and Dream Illegal Immigrant Dream (not the real name) by Mr. Z, our representative on the UFT Executive Board .

WHEREAS , policies affecting immigrant communities directly impact our students– as over 41% of NYC public school students speak a language other than English at home, and an estimated third are immigrants themselves,

Whereas the xenophobic and racist rhetoric during the 2016 presidential election campaign, and the appointment of white nationalists to positions of importance in the Trump administration since has caused many of our students and members to feel fear about their future and that of their families, (!)

Whereas school boards across the nation (Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco) have passed similar resolutions in the weeks since the election, be it

Resolved , That the UFT lobby the Chancellor to provide the necessary outlets for expression, learning, communication, and information by the District family community, which may include:

Programs, discussions, presenters, articles, and persons that reflect the diversity of our schools and embraces our values as a multicultural and multilingual community;

A day of understanding across the District which will encourage students, families, staff, and community partners to explore student and individual rights, the history of civics and coalition building, as well as the struggle to make progress in light of adversity, empowering and recognizing the importance of student leadership and Activism;

A dedicated web page or hotline so that any member can reach out for assistance, clarification, or understanding;

Activities determined by the school site;

Resolved further , That the UFT urge the Chancellor to reaffirm the authority of the DOE to continue to protect the data and identities of any student, family member, or school employee who may be adversely affected by any future policies or executive action that results in the collection of any personally identifiable information to the fullest extent provided by the law;

Resolved further , That the UFT reaffirms its support for every individual embracing education and that NYC DOE campuses will continue to serve as safe zones from ICE and resource centers for students and families threatened by immigration enforcement or discrimination to the fullest extent provided by the law; and, be it finally

Be it further RESOLVED , that the UFT take visible and public steps to follow through on the resolution passed in May of 2016, and ask the Department of Education to immediately require that each school with immigrant students appoint an ‘Immigration Adviser’ (similar to the ‘sustainability coordinator’ or ‘anti-bullying liaison’) to ensure that schools and school processes are welcoming of immigrant students and families.

BTW, this resolution DID NOT PASS. So the only thing that did pass was this noxious emanation of gas from down under.

KEYWORDS:
I am just nauseous from reading this. Please do not think that EVERY teacher buys into this nonsense. There are conservative teachers out there, although here in NYC they are being singled out and slammed with punitive measures to get them out. No one with integrity or moral fiber allowed!

Competition will improve the quality of education. Allow the schools to compete for voucher dollars via their product.

At what point can it be said that the “good” teachers, by agreeing to work in the corrupt system, are enabling evil? ( Just wondering.)

At what point are the parents, who send their precious children into these Borg-like centers of indoctrination, are guilty of child abuse? ( Just wondering.)

Ah, Wintertime, purveyor of weird crap.

Teachers did not sign up to work in a "corrupt system". It sure wasn't this way when I started out so many many years ago. And once one has a lot of years in toward a well deserved pension, you don't throw that away for ideology; you make the best of a bad situation. Teachers also have kids, mortgages, car payments, etc.

The Bored of Ed goes to a lot of trouble to fake statistics, learning achievement goals reached, and everything else in a frantic effort to please their politician masters. Parents who don't make the effort to find out what's really what will be left in the dark as to what's really going on. Half of these parents don't even know IF their kid is in school or hanging out on the corner. Most of the parents I've met don't see the schools as centers of indoctrination. They see them as free babysitting with a side order of ABCs. A few really care, but most feel their responsibility is fulfilled when they dump the kid at the door.

Don’t forget the free 3 meals a day including summers so mom n pop can spend their money on important things like ratios and getting their nails done.

Oh, you mean THIS?

and THIS?

Why make up any lesson plan for first period? The students will be busy stuffing food and drink down their faces, leaving crumbs and spills all over the desks, and stuffing the trash thereof into the desk cavities or into lockers, the better to attract vermin. Been there, seen it.

And, they certainly pride themselves on not asking the under-18 kids' immigration status, so once more, the illegals put one over on the NYC public and get them to pay their illicit way--in addition to stealing money for housing, stealing an education, and stealing medical care.

Gee, with all these other people feeding their kids, ghetto moms will have all kinds of free time when they're not stuck in the kitchen and all kinds of extra bucks from all the other benefits they receive to get their dope and their nail tips done. Isn't it wonderful?

Hey - the person in the Clinton Admin stated that she thought that self actualization of the teachers outweighed actual teaching...

Teachers today know, or should know, that the schools are corrupt and are actually hurting children. At what point should it be said that these teachers are enabling evil?

Other Americans manage to pay mortgages without enabling evil or hurting children. Why can't teachers?

Ignorance isn't an excuse for child abuse when it comes to emotional or physical damage to children outside of the K-12 setting. Why should ignorant parents be given a pass just because the abuse comes in the form of sending them into the Borg-like government schools?

By the way, a personal insult directed at me doesn't answer these questions.

Teachers today know, or should know, that the schools are corrupt and are actually hurting children.

Ah, now the perennially strange Wintertime needs teachers to have yet another skill: clairvoyance. Teachers, according to the sage Wintertime, are supposed to know that "schools are corrupt and are actually hurting children." Who gets to define "corrupt"? You? By your standards? And schools are "actually hurting children"? I suppose that is why teachers are required to be mandated reporters of suspected children abuse. I know I reported several cases and helped kids out of bad situations. And listened to kids' problems and tried to hook them up to the right social services. Oh, and listened to more "boyfriend done me wrong" stories than I can remember and offered heartfelt advice.

What if one is a moral teacher of integrity? Where could they do more for children? Trying their best to educate them, and taking the heat from administration for trying to do the job the right way (what I did for many years), or simply catcalling from the sidelines, as good ol' Wintertime the sage is doing?

And let us remember that not every parent is qualified to home school their kids or has the money to send them to private schools (to the tune of $12k-15K/year, from what I hear). So they pretty much have to send their kids to public school. They certainly do not think of the schools as a "Borg-like" setting, although many don't think overly much about it, period. Added to that is the law, which requires kids to go to school until the age of 16-18, depending on where you live.

Teachers, from what I've seen of them for a quarter century or more, are overwhelmingly decent people who sincerely want to educate kids. They do not report to school each day to "enable evil" or harm the kids. You have the wrong target in pointing the finger there. The real purveyors of corruption and therefore evil are the politicians who lately decided to dabble in what they don't know about---education---and often adopt policies, which they then impose on administrators, and through them, teachers---which make them, the politicians, look good instead of being good for the kids.

You want to point fingers? Track down who is behind ridiculous or harmful policies---like Mayor Bill DiBlASSio---and make your thoughts known to them. In order to be effective, do it in significant numbers, or your lone voice in the wind will likely be ignored.

I personally think that Wintertime should use their overly dramatic "analytical" skills to write some soap opera scripts. They could use someone like them. Imagine, a soap opera attorney pointing to a plumber and declaring, "You KNEW that kind of faucet could drip and cause annoying plopping noises, yet you persisted in being a plumber! If you knew that you could contribute to sleeplessness, why didn't you leave the profession and become an electrician?"

Re: “ perennially strange Wintertime”

You are a teacher and therefore a professional.

I will assume that you would **never** use personal insult in your classroom especially since you are in a position of leadership and power over your students. This is especially true since students on the K-12 level are immature socially and incapable of defending themselves.

Wintertime, just stow it. Don't try to hide behind rules you set for me and not yourself. You threw a salvo at me and all teachers, claiming we were basically criminals for reporting to our jobs to try and educate children and help them in any other way we can. You can hardly expect to accuse teachers of criminality and not expect me to defend myself and the profession. We don't get up in the morning and drive to work thinking, "Oh, goody. I am proud to be a cog in the government criminal machine, whoopee!"

Your statements reek of ignorance and lack of analytical thinking. You are ridiculous. This is not the first time you've amply demonstrated that for all to see, either.

I ask two **serious** questions that need serious answers by the taxpayer, the parents, and the teachers. They are not a “salvo” at you.

1) When are schools so bad that essential the teachers are cooperating with and establishing evil? In some schools we are close to or at that point.

2) When are schools so horrific that parents sending their children into them are knowingly or unknowingly committing child abuse? Again, in some schools we are close to or at that point. Even if a child were to never attend, illiteracy and innumeracy can be fixed. Dead can't be.,

More personal insults but, I trust that as a professional you would **never** use this debating technique with emotionally immature, socially insecure,and powerless students. No. A professional teacher would never do that.

Stuff it, Wintertime. Time for a new hobby. How about looking in a mirror and listing all the faults of the entity you see there? Your time for clutching your pearls is past.
