Well, it’s a natural thing to want to spend money on something you really want instead of stuff you have to. I bear no ill will to them, but I do feel that I should just mention some alternate realities that aren’t so great.

When I was very young, I saw a picture of my mom and one of her friends standing in front of a plaque. The message was something on the order of I thought I had it bad, because I had not shoes. Then I met a man who had no feet.

So when I get to gripping, I remind myself or that picture, and try to get into a better frame of mind.

Tricare and the VA benefits fall under the same umbrella.

Sorry, but you’re wrong. I just recently retired, but when I was working I handled countless injury cases where Medicare was involved. Medicare was always secondary if there was other insurance available, with the one exception being VA benefits and Tricare. We couldn’t settle any cases without first receiving a conditional payment letter from CMS, which coordinated Medicare. If Medicare had paid anything towards the medical bills, we were required by law to either reimburse Medicare or to include Medicare on the settlement check. Having to deal with Medicare under these circumstances usually delayed settlement by months.
