Remember this 1971, still unsolved airline hijacking?

So they've analyzed his tie clip and found particles including cerium, strontium sulfide and pure titanium, which may lead them narrowing who it may be, perhaps a Boeing engineer in Seattle working on a project which used these elements.

OK..

"new evidence"

clip-on tie

The new evidence is that he was a tacky dresser!

New evidence?
Probably not, more like “new speculation”.

The new evidence is that he was a tacky dresser!

So was every other Boeing engineer, including my Dad.

Hmm, I was wondering how he bought that new Ferrari :-).

No, it was the rare earth elements, including cerium, strontium sulfide and pure titanium, found on the J.c. Penny clip on tie. He may have indeed been a tacky dresser though, but that is not the new clue. 8>)

Considering that back then these elements were not in widespread usage, it is a good new clue to follow.

Curiosity makes me want to know who this person is that apparently successfully pulled off the heist.

A clip-on tie makes sense. It can’t get hooked up while jumping or hold you back if someone grabs it.

It was a joke...my dad wore them too. And yet he taught me how to tie my own ties, which I do! Go figure.

LOL, I know it was a joke. I was just envisioning your typical Boeing engineer back then; clip on black tie, pocket protector with slide rule and pencils, LOL.

There’s no evidence he was successful that I’m aware of though I have not followed it closely.

His reserve chute was sewn shut, it was a demo model. An experienced chutist would have checked that. For that matter, maybe they gave him a sabotaged main chute? He jumped at night, in a rainstorm.

None of the cash has ever been spent. Somebody found about 5k along a river in 1980, that was part of the money given to him. Theory is he landed in water and drowned. Dredging operations blew some of the money onto the bank where it was later found.

What’s weird is nobody noticed this guy disappearing in his immediate family.

If you work around machinery that a tie could get snagged in it makes sense too. That way the machine takes the tie and leaves your face

Then he is dead I guess. Unless it was below the lethal threshold for him. I guess the request for 4 parachutes was a ruse to throw the authorities off as to his true identity.

Thanks, mystery solved. 8>)

I guess I’m the only one who Watched Destination Unknown with Josh Gates?

Josh’s investigation opened the door for the testing. He used his media contacts to find a lab that would do the testing.

It is indeed a CLIP ON TIE.

Also, they covered the possibility that the guy jumped on approach to Reno. That is a much better place to parachute.
