Alexa will make your car smarter -- and vice versa

At CES, both Ford and Volkswagen announced that their cars would integrate Alexa for weather updates, navigation and more. According to CJ Frost, principal architect solutions and automotive lead at Amazon, the car industry is moving into a mobility space. The idea isn't restricted to the ride anymore; it encompasses a journey that starts before you even get in the car. With the right skills built into the voice service, you can start a conversation with Alexa about the state of your car (is there enough fuel, is it locked, etc.) before you leave the house. It can also pull up your calendar, check traffic updates and confirm the meeting to make sure you're on track for the day.

Using a voice service in the car keeps your connection with the intelligent assistant intact. It's also a mode of communication that will be essential to autonomous cars of the near future. I caught up with Frost and John Scumniotales, GM of Automotive Alexa service, at the Las Vegas convention center to trace the progression of the intelligent assistant from home speakers to cars on the road.

Yeah and Alexa will also hand your ass over to the thought police who are coming with the next Democrat president.

Will Alexa notify the police when you are speeding? Count on it.

Oh well. If experts are right, we won’t even be driving by 2020. Self driving automated cars will do it for us.

What I like - a navigation system that tells me to turn right in five seconds to make my exit on an unfamiliar alternate route.
What I don’t like - a navigation system that says turn here, and then I realize I’m sitting in the parking lot of a place we often eat out at but I am trying to save money.

I was listening to my neighbor brag about his son’s fancy new car. Can start it using the smart phone, where it is and how fast if the grandson is using it, etc.

“I hope nobody ever hacks into it and sends a code to employ the airbag when it hits 60 mph.”

Self driving will be taken away from you, for the “common good.”

Yup.

Driving a car on public roads has already been determined by the courts to be a "privilege," not a "right."

Unless you're an illegal alien, of course.

My pal bought a new Honda that reads text messages text-to-voice. So of course we were cracking up over sending him loads of obscene messages. In Pig Latin.

Knowledge (something or someone telling you the answer) does not make you smarter

Thinking makes you smarter

Einstein was not Einstein because he read the theory of relativity

Knowledge is food ...being able to vomited back out On Demand is not “being smarter”..

Thinking is exercise..that the way you build the muscle that is the mind ...that’s “smarter”

Alexa will also record every word of every conversation in your car. But hey, your cell phone already does that so what’s the problem right?

I'd like something in this layout with lots of buttons but a better steering wheel.

Do you really trust Jeff Bezos -- the man who hired 20 special reporters at his Washington Post just to dig up dirt on Trump -- and his "Alexa" devices to listen to every word you say in your car?

No, thanks. I want my car with 1976 smarts. Easy to work on and not so many buttons to confuse. Definitely no Big Brother. And give me back comfortable seats, smooth ride and a steering wheel that can be turned with my little finger.
