LONDON: Birds have evolved larger brains to cope in harsh environments where the tasks of finding food, evading predators and finding shelter are more demanding, say scientists who predict that smart creatures may cope better with climate change than less brainy ones.
Researchers, including those from University of Bath in the UK, used data from over 1,200 bird species to test whether large brains relative to body size are more prevalent in a harsh and unpredictable climate than smaller ones.
They found that birds that live in highly seasonal environments such as in polar regions have significantly larger brains than those that live on the equator.
They also found that birds living in habitats with an unpredictable climate, such as places where there are extreme fluctuations in weather from one year to the next, also had larger brains relative to their body size.

yep... cause the larger brains will keep them from falling for climate change...d’oh.
You said what I was thinking.
Since we humans are vastly more intelligent than the birds, surely we will be able to adapt, if the worst fears of the enviro extremists and Al Gore actually happened.
I suppose the pterodactyls were not included on the memo list.
What utter horse shit. It is well known that climate change is cyclical and MANY times it has been warmer than the present and ALL of the species alive today survived those periods.
“Can we take this hypothesis one step further to infer that higher intelligent beings are more likely to survive so-called “climate change” and that this would eventually lead to the extinction of liberals?”
HA! Brilliant! The bird-brained leftists will be left with only one purpose ~ To be the Canaries in the coal mine...
Oh, well. I’m sure they were paid very large research grants for this discovery, with our tax dollars.
I have heard somewhere that ancient ruins of cities have been found underwater. Perhaps in the Mediterranean Sea area; ruins of communities which were above the water during the days of ancient Egypt or Greece?
Point being, that in such case, we may well have seen sea levels rise in recorded history. However, if that happened, then we also saw that ancient civilizations got out of the way of the rising waters and survived.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong. But I thought I saw a program on History or Discovery or some such channel on TV, in which scuba divers were exploring ruins of an ancient underwater city.
Dang! You just can’t keep Democrats from surviving.
.
Pterodactyls are very much still with us.
.
That’s known kind of obvious. I’m surprised anyone could issue a study that came to the conclusion that smarter animals survive better, and actually get someone to pay them for saying it. I wish I had thought of that.
Climate change is definitely going to be hard on liberals. They’re preparing for warmer weather while the sun is preparing to give us a bit of a chill for the next few decades. Maybe even a few millennia if the earth goes into its next major glacial period.
Yes climate change is cyclical, and there have been many ice ages in earth history.
During the last ice age, Chicago was buried under a mile of ice. How did all that ice melt, if not for a period of “global warming” which came along to cause melting.
YES!
The article is clear....
Some Birdbrains won’t survive.
JANUARY 20TH Can't come fast enough!
Oh, come on, you know that 99.9% of “climate change” articles we post is to mock liberals who believe this crap.
Sea levels have risen about 135 meters in the last 18,000 years. It's a safe bet that people were living along the shorelines throughout that period.
Besides sea levels rising, it is also possible for land to sink - either gradually subsiding over centuries, or suddenly sliding into the sea (e.g., due to violent seismic activity).
At least, that's what I remember from reading a few Jules Vernes novels.
Regards,
Hmmm...probably related to the bird-brains who thought it up in the first place.
