The Pope is a nutball. Jesus was not a migrant.

He was as much of a migrant in going back to his familial hometown of Bethlehem from Nazareth as I am when I go back to my Indiana home town for Christmas from where I live on the East Coast.

Think of all those “migrants” who go “over the river and through the woods” to grandma’s house for a holiday visit.

True, but irrelevant.

Was Egypt in any way shape or form home to Jesus, Mary or Joseph? NO. Of course not.

Did Jesus, Mary and Joseph travel to Egypt to flee from persecution in their home country? Yes, as Matthew Ch. 2 so clearly points out.

This isn't complicated.

They were refugees, as serve as models of how refugees should conduct themselves.

They fled from persecution by the King of Judea into a country not ruled by the King of Judea.

That simple fact could not be more plain; why anyone would reject it eludes me.

Egypt was run directly from Rome, ...

So now Egypt is not run by Pharaoh...but by Rome.

Your initial statement indicated Egypt was run by Pharaoh when Joseph and family fled to Egypt.

Me thinks you don't know what you're talking about.

Next question...at the time of the passage in question, who was running Judaea?

But I repeat myself.

There’s really nothing further to say. If you, for whatever reason, continue to reject simple facts there’s nothing I can do to help you. I suggest that you take up your argument with the author of the Holy Gospel According to Matthew. I’m sure he’ll find your comments amusing.

This guy is working hard to destroy the Catholic Church. Guess he wants us to go the way of the Anglicans/Episcopalians and several other of the so-called mainline Protestant churches.

This Pope’s agenda is dangerous, imho:

“I think it is not right to identity Islam with violence,” he told reporters aboard the plane taking him back to Rome after a five-day trip to Poland. “This is not right and this is not true.”

The pope was responding to a question about the killing on 26 July of an 85-year-old Roman Catholic priest during a church service in western France. The attackers forced the priest to his knees and slit his throat. The killing was claimed by Islamic State.

“I think that in nearly all religions there is a always a small fundamentalist group,” he said, adding “We have them,” referring to Catholicism.

Under whose authority was the King of Judaea?

The Roman Empire was destroyed by immigration.

Was the King of Judea the King of Judea? Did he submit his every decree to any other authority? Did he have any authority in Egypt? Did the authorities in Egypt have any authority in Judea? Did anyone force them to respect each other's decrees?

"Yes", "No", "No" and "No" are the correct answers.

You're trying to turn the Roman Empire into the United States of America. It's a bad fit. Try the EU as a better modern-day model.

All of which is beside the fundamental point:

Joseph took his family out of his home country (Israel) into another country (Egypt) to seek refuge from political persecution. King Herod would tolerate no rival to his throne; he sought to kill anyone who might possibly be able to claim it.

Read and understand the Gospel. Cease the pettifoggery.

Have a blessed day.

The vicar of Christ, reducing the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega, the All Mighty God, the Creator of all things, to a migrant. To make a political statement.

Silly Catholic. Truth is for believers who love and study God's Word.

Israel did not exist at this time!

You have no clue what you're talking about.

First you claim Egypt is ruled by Pharaoh at this time. Then you admit it was run by Rome. So you were proven wrong on that issue.

It's all under the Roman Empire. That's the point.

No, that's not the point. It's fleeing to seek refuge from political persecution. That's the point.

Persecution ... as in, the King (not the Emperor) was trying to kill Him.

Get it?

Can you acknowledge that simple fact?

Seriously ... If you can't manage to do that, there's no point having any sort of discussion with you.

While they were in Egypt, they were unable to return. Therefore, they were refugees.

When Herod died, they were able to return, and they ceased to be refugees.

Can you understand these simple concepts?

Refugee status need not be permanent.

It's a simple progression of facts:

1) Before Herod went berserk: Not refugees.
2) After Herod went berserk, but before Herod died: Refugees.
3) After Herod died: Repatriated former refugees

See? It's just not that difficult.

I have no problem in saying they were fleeing persecution from Herod as that's what was happening.

But to insinuate they were heading to another country is incorrect.

Judea and Egypt were under Roman authority at the time.
