A new law, signed last week by Governor Tom Wolf (D), opens the door for the Pennsylvania Game Commission to allow semiautomatic rifles and handguns to be used for hunting beginning in 2017. Semiautomatic refers to the firearms action; such an action uses recoil to cycle, replacing a spent shell with a loaded one so it is chambered and ready to go when the hunter pulls the trigger.

Opening day of deer season in southern tier NY sounds like popcorn machine and that’s with shotguns. This should be interesting.

They need to make noise suppressors legal for hunting.
Juist think of the hearing loss problems that could be eliminated.

"such an action uses recoil to cycle, replacing a spent shell with a loaded one so it is chambered and ready to go when the hunter pulls the trigger."Slight correction: "such an action uses energy from one shot (recoil and/or gas pressure) to cycle, replacing its spent shell with a loaded one so it is chambered and ready to go when the hunter pulls the trigger."
Picky, picky... '-)

Ever wonder why TEXAS deer shown in hunting magazines are so big? The game farms import huge WISCONSIN deer into the state.
Real Texas deer are small.
To: C19fan
Don’t recall Texas ever making such a distinction. If it did, it was probably resolved — as a non-issue — many decades ago...
