Future Independence-class littoral combat ship USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) successfully completed its acceptance trials Nov. 18.
The trials consisted of a series of in-port and underway demonstrations for the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV).
Acceptance trials are the last significant milestone before delivery of the ship to the Navy. During the trials, the Navy conducted comprehensive tests of the LCS intended to demonstrate the performance of the propulsion plant, ship handling, and auxiliary systems.

Following delivery and commissioning in Galveston, Texas, LCS 10 will sail to California to be homeported in San Diego with sister ships USS Independence (LCS 2), USS Coronado (LCS 4), USS Jackson (LCS 6), and USS Montgomery (LCS 8).

Why are we naming ships after people that are still alive?! I thought they only occurred after they died. Or did I miss her death?
an LCS is only arguably ready for combat.
Perhap turn the tables on the libs and rechristen it the USS Smith & Wesson. :-)

I wish a rule or law was passed which banned ships and other stuff from being named after politicians. Yes we give up the USS. Ronald Reagan and others but it would be better than having travesties like this.

note: it is usual ... NOT to name anything after a living person....(naming after someone is supposed to be a memorial for them after they pass.........die.....not an honorific while they’re alive)
also,
ANYBODY still alive can turn from living a good honorable life into becoming a crook or thief or rapist or robber or mass-murderer. It is NOT WISE AT ALL to name anything after someone who is still alive!
