We saw them live at Great Woods back in 2004 or so. They were wonderful!
Fagen admits that. He said it amused him to think of suburban housewives rockin’ out to Hey Nineteen without knowing how dirty it was. I never really saw it as dirty, though I do think Hang On Sloopy is very dirty.
I have very little idea, about the lyrics in songs I like listening to.
What do you mean HOPE you enjoy Steely Dan? There is no HOPE involved, you just *naturally* enjoy it!
Reelin would probably be my top SD song.
You think that’s bad, check out the lyrics to “Time Out Of Mind.”
Or Glamour Profession. Knock-out song, killer musicians, brilliant arranging, but I've never been able to play it for my kids because of what it's about.
Yep, “Gaucho” is a pretty dark album, I admit, it’s not my favorite.
But Fagen’s “The Nightfly” is a masterpiece.
Agreed. And it's the closest Fagen comes to any sort of political comment (not that I want him to).
There are a couple of songs on Kamakiriad that aren't bad, but I don't think he quite achieves the combination of poignancy, humor, and gonzo journalism he got when he was younger.
Of course, both he and Becker had to deal with some pretty heavy distractions in the 21st Century.
And I love TIme Out of Mind, with its strange and beautiful guitar solo by Mark Knopfler.
Every time I hear it, I remember the video tape of Peggy Fleming doing the "school figures" as part of her gold-medal Olympic performance in 1968.
Knopfler's solo is like that. Incredibly precise, yet lyrical and sweet. Like lovely Peggy, locked in a groove, concentrating with everything she's got, so serious but so beautiful. I'm experiencing goose bumps right now, just writing about it.
When I hear "Walk Between the Raindrops" it really does feel like I'm in 50s-era MIami Beach.
" My Old School" Countdown to Ecstasy, 1973.
“Having said that, the lyrics of this this song always struck me as run-of-the-mill rockstar decadence, typically morally bankrupt dirty old man “
Give it a break, you’re a silly person.
Steely Dan imo some of the greatest music of the era. Of course, any major dude will tell you that.
