It’s private property. Walmart gets to set the rules and if they suspect someone of shoplifting they can ask. Did we read the same article? Where was she physically held against her will and forced to comply?

As a teenager I worked in a grocery store, and I was running a cash register when this black woman comes zipping in between the lines with cokes in each hand.
I stopped her and said “Mam, do you have a receipt for that?”
Instant Angry Black Woman!!!
She did have a receipt. She had paid and for whatever reason had to go back to get the cokes. One of the other cashiers backed her up, but not before I’d gotten a good cussing!
Store manager came out and backed me up though.
She should have realized what it looked like and just shown me her receipt, instead of coping an attitude.

My read: She knew EXACTLY what she was doing and I SUSPECT that this wasn't the first, only or last time.

She is an asshole, pure and simple. [Use the Clint Eastwood version of "asshole."]

Technically, even a genuine shoplifter has to be allowed to leave the store, or set off the alarms past the registers with merchandise before being confronted.

And Walmart won’t pay a dime. They’re smart enough and she has no reasonable claim. What exactly are the physical damages? How do you make someone whole for that? Pregnant women always show off their stomachs.
