This is what the voters have been telling the GOP for years. If they had only listened to this song and shown a little courage, we would be in a different place today.

Probably the only hit with a kazoo interlude.

Early 1960s introduced a wealth of recordings long remembered!

Nope. Del Shannon had one in "So Long Baby" (1961).

That's Del himself on kazoo.

This song would be unacceptable today.
She would be encouraging Johnny to exhibit
toxic masculinity. Sorry, grandkids, but
I had no hand in bequeathing you a nation
of Tiny Tims.

It’s frightening to think they actually wrote and recorded songs like that then. And a bunch of us stupid girls thought they were “romantic,” but they were really just gross. He Hit Me and It Felt Like a Kiss, Rough Lover, and the champ, Lightning Strikes.

She’d be banned now.

Funny you should highlight this song. It was the very first
record I ever bought, a 45 RPM, when I was 10. I loved the
little piano flourishes.

He Hit Me by the Crystals was actually banned in a lot of places, which may be the reason it didn't chart. Please Hurt Me by the Crystals (1962), which has a similar theme, was only released on an LP and not as a single.

This tune from the fall of '62 should be popular on FR.
