Alcohol consumption caused more than 700,000 new cancer cases and around 366,000 cancer deaths in 2012, mainly in rich countries, according to data reported Wednesday to the World Cancer Congress in Paris.
Comparing the cancer risk of people who drink, to that of people who do not, researchers calculated that alcohol was responsible for an estimated five percent of all new cancer cases, and 4.5 percent of deaths per year.
A large part of the population is unaware that cancer can be caused by alcohol, study co-author Kevin Shield of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), told AFP of the preliminary report, not yet published.

No smoking anymore so on to the next enjoyment in life. lol.
Islam will take care of alcohol based illnesses. Pork bases illnesses as well.
so..... is not drinking responsible for the other 95%?
Only tobacco smoke. Cannabis smoke is all good.
John likes the taste of orange 95% of the time. It doesn’t mean that orange also likes the taste of John 95% of the time.
Yup, I guess now we get to call all the drinkers “Drug addicts” like they did to smokers for years. Oh well... we tried to warn them that their booze was next once they finished attacking tobacco
Absolutely true. They will “take away” by force everything until every American is eating Kale exclusively and nothing else.
Oh gosh. So true. So weird.
This is baloney. More Dem garbage.
until every American is eating Kale exclusively and nothing else.....OH, BS. Moochelle has an arugula farm she needs to sell from.
I’ll drink to that!
A hard science study versus calculated estimates would have more weight.
There’s nothing political here and my experience shows this claim to be true. My family carries the BRCA1 gene mutation giving carriers a 90% chance of developing breast or ovarian cancer in their lifetime among other things. BRCA1 doesn’t “cause” cancer, but it tries to SAVE cancer cells once they appear instead of letting the body kill them. I have the gene mutation, my much older sisters have it, my mother, my grandmother...yet thankfully I’m the only lotto winner of the bunch with BOTH ovarian and breast cancer (at the same time) by age 39. I’m also the only one of the bunch that drinks wine and occasional beer. At the time of my diagnosis I drank wine almost daily. I believe alcohol plays a huge role in suppressing the immune system and paving the way for cancer to bloom. Anecdotal evidence, I know. But enough to convince me.
I am going to apply for a grant to prove the relationship of breathing and death. 100% of people who breathe, die. Therefore breathing is THE leading cause of death
Means 95% free to keep on keeing on.
Oh that’s right. lol.
