When it comes to Tesla, the hate coming from the right has always mystified me. Facts go right out the window. So lets look at them, shall we?
Tesla was started in 2003. Just like any other business. The founders (including Elon Musk) put up their own money, $70M in Mr. Musk’s case, and then solicited private funding.
In 2009, once Obama decided it was time to start throwing money around, Tesla sought and got a $465M loan from the Feds. Ford got $5.9B. Nissan got $1.9B. But the Tesla haters always forget that part.
Oh, and by 2013, Tesla was the first to pay the money back.
Yes, Tesla buyers get a federal tax credit. As do the buyers of similar cars made by other manufacturers. Is that Tesla’s fault? I got a tax credit for putting a new door in my house. Should I send it back?
Bottom line; Elon Musk is a once in a generation talent when it comes to having a vision and creating companies. (And we haven’t even touched on Space-X).
Yet, we have loads of keyboard warriors here on FreeRepublic who in the comfort of their easy chairs, squawk..... “but HE didn’t build that. WE, the American taxpayer did!!”. Uhh.... do you know who you sound like? Any guesses? Here’s a hint:

You also did not address the electric vehicle tax credits which are money in the company’s pockets since they charge more since buyers get that credit.
