True Catastrophic Health Insurance Options

Posted on 10/26/2016 10:05:12 AM PDT by Degaston

Ok folks, where can we find true catastrophic health insurance? I'm looking for a low cost option that will preferably have a 25K-30K deductible, do the traditional exclusions, and provide real protection in case some catastrophic health event occurs. Specifically I'm in the Republic of Texas, which might have to secede from the Union if this baloney doesn't change :(

Oh yes it will not be "Affordable Care Act" (ACA) compliant. But with premiums rising through the roof that law is now essentially a 2.5% tax on anyone healthy by the year 2018. Can you say "Oh Bum No Care"? Shortened it is ObumnoCare.

There aren’t any that I am aware of, and I looked. Apparently Obamacare effectively banned them.

If you are a Christian, you can get into one of the religious Obamacare alternatives for a veritable song.

They do not cover pre-existing conditions, and your premium will often be met by personal checks directly from you to someone with a bill to pay, but it's the way insurance should have always been.

Sounds like a possible big market for the Indian Casinos and the nothing down home and car loans from Quicken, the wonderful people at Wells Fargo, and ???!

Seriously, if anyone finds a true catastrophic health insurance plan, please ping or freep mail me. We have a lot of younger relatives who might be interested.

It's hard to imagine policies such as the one you describe actually existing.Various carriers might, even with ObamaCare, offer high deductible policies but not ones with a $25K deductible.

Just a hunch on my part...I could certainly be wrong.

Because of health care reform, almost everyone in the U.S. is now required to have health insurance. A catastrophic plan may be an option if you:

Can’t get or don’t want Medicaid.
Are under 30 years old.
Are over 30 and meet the guidelines for a hardship exemption. This includes people whose plan was canceled by their insurer or small group employer.

Even these have much lower deductables than you are looking for.

Catastrophic health insurance is what I had until 2006 when it was cancelled by the insurer. The Democrats had “Obamacare” ready and waiting for the Democrat President to be elected after GWB.

Catastrophic health insurance is what I want. Paying for others’ health care, particularly millions of illegal aliens, no.

Apparently Obamacare effectively banned them.

"If you like your plan, you can keep it."

"Until we make it illegal...."

Catastrophic coverage used to be a $2500-3000 deductible. I know, I had it. Then I couldn’t keep it.

Can you provide a link? I refuse to over-pay for Obamacare and could not find any reasonably priced alternatives.

Fox News item on these alternatives:

NYT article that mentions multiple providers:

Christianity Today article on multiple providers:

One I found that didn't seem to have been identified by the articles above (may be domination-specific, but that's not truly clear, as it could be a ministry):

I agree (and I do so).

My nascent conservative instincts were right in my youth: I could not understand how people could expect insurance to pay for everything, and how doctors could then charge the insurance companies whatever they wanted.

It seemed to me to be removed from reality.

It was.

If “insurance” pays for pre-existing issues, it is actually called a “benefit.”

Insurance is technically for events which have yet to happen, based on the odds of the event happening, with your risk determined by your past and present circumstances. This would mean that for pre-existing conditions to be met, your premium would have to reflect the cost of all of your pre-existing concerns.
