Every once in a while, the establishment gets something right, but for all the wrong reasons.

“Pussification... dependency literally from the cradle to the grave!”

I take it from this comment that you are opposed to the recommendation? I ignore the AAP for many reasons, but this particular piece of advice is OK, even if for the wrong reasons.

Children should be closely bonded with their parents. This is a Christian concept, and it reduces the likelihood that children will instead be bonded with the State, or with the trash they see in movies/TV, or with undesirable peer groups & activities. We are all dependent in one way or another from cradle to grave! Family dependency just happens to be the Godly way.

The opposite concept, to immediately push children into independence and autonomy (a socialist concept, I might add), is a key reason why the Republic, as we know it, has been circling the drain for a couple generations.

At night, we had our baby boy in a Smithfield Ham basket next to our bed!

One of my uncles who did cabinetry and woodwork for a living made beautiful cradles for his daughters and nieces when they were expecting their 1st baby-my cub slept in hers right by my side of the bed for nearly 3 months, then we moved the cradle into in a little alcove in our bedroom- meant for a small desk-until she was a few months older-then we put a crib in the alcove and she slept in that-we didn’t put her into her own room until she was nearly a year old, and it all worked out just fine-babies need to be kept close to their parents early in life-in the far past to keep them from being carried off by predators-and now for bonding and emotional health...

Sounds absolutely delightful! Lucky the little one in your care!

I think all these pronouncements about child care are a conspiracy to convince decent people that having children is so difficult and dangerous that they might as well not even try.

Thank you-since my mom told me to keep my cub close to me-and I’d never seen anyone in my family put a small baby in another room to sleep, it just felt right to have mine close, too. I’d never seen anyone put a baby in another room until I moved from a rural area to a city for awhile to go to college-but even in the city, most tiny babies were not in their own bedroom...

wonder what our ancestors did when they lived in the wird?

Baby slept with mommy and daddy otherwise baby ended up as a late night snack for some carnivore.

So all the pioneers were "Pussified... dependent literally from the cradle to the grave" because the family often lived in one room?

Even when they had a separate room for mom and dad the youngest stayed in mom and dad's room until they were two or three.

Fortunately my mother was holding me when I quit breathing, and she was able to revive me. I would not allow my own babies to die for anyone or anything.

I have a small bladder. I go to the bathroom several times every night.

I also have a 4 month old, who sleeps in a bassinet at the foot of our bed.

Every time I return from the bathroom, I bend down close to her and listen for her breathing.

I am uptight about it!

All of our children were breast fed and slept between us for the first 8 to 12 months. It got to the point that when the baby was hungry, my wife would feed it in her sleep.

Everyone slept well.

It’s called a reluctant admission. Kinda like having to admit that the steady-state universe theory was debunked by red shift proving a Catholic theologian’s theory to have a sound basis.

It’s those first few months that are most critical. Mine are 25 years old, and I still worry about them breathing!
