Basically a Pete Townshend song, he plays bass under a pseudonym and produced the record, which was a big hit. I think the vocalist was a stagehand or maybe limo driver on a tour for The Who.

The bluesy piano, the building tempo and the strained “Tom Waite” style vocals make this a uniquely great performance.
I’ve always liked it. Its a song that leaves you thinking.

This song was on the soundtrack of the movie, The Strawberry Statement, that came out right before the Kent State shootings in 1970. The movie went into the dust bin of notoriety as one of the movies that comes out when a major event happens at the same time.
