Surprised Dubrovnik didn’t make the list. One of my all time favorites.

Prague, Czech Republic. VERY beautiful, very old city with a lot of original architecture. Also, plentiful CHEAP beer!

For my first visit to Prague, I arrived late at night and ended up in a downtown hostile. In the morning, the guy at the front desk directed me to the hotel next door for breakfast. The restaurant was in the basement with small windows at street level so there was not a lot of light. The tables were filled with people eating sausages and eggs, and everyone of them has a large glass of Pilsner Urquell sitting in front of them. It was around 9 am. My 2 day visit ended up lasting a full week. Prague is a must see city for everyone going to the EU.

Love those hill towns. Have done Italy twice both times by train, but would love to go back and rent a car to really get into Tuscany. Despite the myth, Italians, especially the public officials working at tourist sites, are not especially friendly, but Italy just sells itself.

Call it strange, but in Switzerland, seeing a soldier armed with full automatics in the airport, made me feel safe. I think the Swiss take security seriously

...all of them also former Communist places where Americans are still very popular.

And where the locals hate Russians almost to a person.

You should have kept on looking...for a less hostile hostel.      =;^)

In Europe many beautiful places to see. Personally I like Italy. I visited it last autumn, it was in September. I rented a yacht for a couple of days on https://sailica.com/mediterranean/italy and enjoyed the last warm days watching the beautiful sunsets on the sea. I forgot to mention that Italian wine and food are the best.

During my Army days in Babenhausen, Hessen a six pack of 12 oz Eders beer was $1.80 at the PX while a six pack of 12 oz. Coke was $1.90. Eders was my favorite German pilsner after Darmstadter.
