Two contrasting portraits of refuge occupation emerge during opening statements (Oregon Standoff)

Sixteen federal employees of the peaceful Malheur National Wildlife Refuge were preparing last year how to deal with invasive fish......

What they never expected Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Barrow told jurors Tuesday, was "an invasion far more serious than the common carp."......

He played a video of (Ammon) Bundy standing atop a snowbank in the Safeway parking lot in Burns in his blue plaid flannel jacket and cowboy hat, declaring, "Those who understand what has happened here....I'm asking you to follow me to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. We're going to make a hard stand.....We're going to insist the Constitution be protected here in this country.".......

Ammon Bundy's lawyer Marcus Mumford didn't deny that his client led the occupation, yet he argued that Ammon Bundy's intent wasn't to "interfere with some kind of nature study," but to return the land to the people--"all because the federal government refuses to respect the limits of its powers."

"He demands the federal government obey the law. The nerve!" Mumford told jurors in his opening statement.

Ammon Bundy and his co-defendants, frustrated by the federal government's grazing and water rights restrictions on public land, believed in the need to restore more local control in the West. Discouraged that federal officials hadn't responded to their concerns, they needed to do something to draw attention to the plight of rural ranchers, loggers and miners, defense lawyers argued.

Most of the defendants arrived in Burns to protest the return to prison of Harney County ranchers Dwight Hammond Jr. and his son, Steve Hammond, both convicted of arson on federal land, their lawyers said.

"We came to help them," defendant Ryan Bundy told jurors.......

Day One of the Oregon Standoff trial was yesterday.

The judge expects a nine week trial with the jury getting the case in the middle of November.

Some powerful argument from the defense yesterday with some of the defendants representing themselves.

If you want to get non mainstream media videos and comments on the trial and the protests going on outside the jail and courthouse in Portland, try Gavin Seim’s Facebook-Gavin Seim for Liberty.

I like what Gavin Seim is saying including his hostility to the games of the politicians.

This includes Donald Trump although I make an exception for Mr. Trump willing to vote for him but expecting real change in the WH or I will be right up there opposing him, too.

Prayers for the Bundy defense team. Precious few defend the spirit and the word of the Constitution these days.

Maybe this is why big media largely ignored this story. Alternative media seemed to be a little light on the merits of what the Bundy situation was all about.

Colonoscopy Kaepernick got more detailed attention than Bundy.

Isn’t it amazing the Judge denied the Jury a copy of a “pocket constitution” ? Wow that could really prejudice them....against the government.

Pray for the Political Prisoners. The FBI went after them with a heavy hand because they want the government to obey the law. Hillary broke all kinds of laws and they decided not to prosecute her.
