Maybe the response to it is subjective, but you won’t convince me that pain itself is totally subjective. People who want to restrict Oxycontin and other pain meds seem to think that suffering is noble, as long as someone else has to do it.

The Sinaloa cartel has invented forms of heroin that can be snorted or smoked. Some addicts draw the line at using needles to get high, but if you give them something that they can put up their nose or something that can be smoked like crack they will use it. Also, heroin is comparatively easy to smuggle.

btw way...ever hear of the Joint Commission?.....it regulates and inspects hospitals etc...

they DEMANDED at least a decade ago that hospitals treat pain at any cost and document it, oh boy you better document it...

so that is the reason we have the horrible overuse of oxy and hydro and now people demanding dilaudid and fentanyl...

one drug is not enough...one dose will loose its effect...people will demand more, more, more....

humans lived forever putting up with pain,or finding safe ways to deal with it....

but no...we had to create a whole class of drug seekers....we had to create a need...

what do you mean we don't worry about alcohol?..

we do worry...

that's why its not advertised....that's why we have growing draconian laws against drinking and driving...

when people are in a MVA, they get checked for alcohol..we throw them in jail....

and it is extremely rare or maybe even nonexistent for a drinker to take one drink and overdose...

suffering is NOT noble...but please tell me how our grandparents and greatgrandparents got along without oxy or hydro?....they worked on the farm and in factories...they had bad backs and bad knees....

people are asking for trouble if they think that they won't develop a tolerance and demand more and more...

and, all the druggies coming into our hospital ALWAYS have several drugs on board...

you see....one is not enough....

Don’t you see how Luddite that is? It’s no better than castigating anti-depressants because Grandma lived with depression all her life, and she survived, so nobody needs treatment.

And in the meantime, the city of Seattle is working on a bill to provide funds to create a protected space for heroin users to consume the drug. Literally they are trying to provide addicts a place to shoot an illegal drug, then let then on their way in the outside world with no limitations drawn. They are inviting illegal drug users to move to Seattle, which means an increase in sales, putting more at risk. And the eddicts in time, will have to steal and harm to get the drug on the street as the city doesn’t provide it. I live in this highly liberal state and hope some day the public will stop the rash of voting for self destructive ideas. But I don’t see it happening soon.

These people were brought to the hospital; most will survive. You will pay for their recovery. Before they go back to their habit. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Enjoy. Left the western side of the state 2 years ago for northern Michigan. Could not be happier.

The only correct answer to this is to let them die. They chose to do the stupid act, they alone bear responsibility for it.

Once all the dopers are dead the whole illegal drugs problem goes away.

Yes it is being marketed to young whites, mostly males. Another attack on our sovereignty.

My son had a bright future. Making over $50,000 a year when he was in his mid 20’s being a supervisor at a major manufacturing company. New car, money in his pocket. vacations. Adorable daughter born in 2010. Then a car accident left him with a shattered shoulder and in terrible pain. I don’t know when he became an addict. I’m assuming after the doctors pumped him up with narcotics and then, as they do, abruptly cut him off. Eventually he lost his job. Resorted to donating plasma and retail theft to support his habit. His insecure wife decided to join him, rather than put her child first. In early 2015 I reported them to CPS and my granddaughter was taken away. I have not spoken to him since. I love my son but I cannot trust him. He is a shell of his former self. I expect a knock on the door or a phone call telling me he is dead or in jail.

Professionals will tell you, this epidemic is like no other. The last 5 years have seen a dramatic increase in deaths and overdoses. Heroin is cheap and plentiful. Yet, there are no public service announcements or school programs warning of the dangers or addictive nature of this drug. As I stated previously, this is being marketed to mostly white males. Many overdoses are kids from upper middle class backgrounds. Is our government profiting from it? Why else would it be ignored?

We have drunks driving on yanked DL’s with 20 or more DUI’s killing people. No the courts don’t give a flip or they’d jail them with the first DUI for a year. We have 1 city council woman who got caught DUI in Tunica, MS passed out in her car, they took her DL, then she applied for a lost TN DL and that is another felony. Got caught for that and DUI in Memphis, and had fraudulent DL confiscated, got caught violating the court order not to drive, her excuse was I didn’t think that applied to my doing Meals On Wheels charity. She has since been caught driving on NO DL again and DUI again on several occasions, and not once did she spend more than the time it took to do bail in a private jail cell.

I have a 2 inch thick med record folder documenting the spinal damage, OA/OP, Fibromyalgia, Peripheral Neuropathy, Gastropresis, Bursitis in both hips, torn Right rotator cuff, to small to fix, herniated, bulged, bone spurs and protrusions on the discs in my spine. And an Enlarged heart with a small leaky valve to small to fix.

With GI issues NO anti=inflammatory is usable. Not even OTC, can’t even take a baby aspirin. Tylenol is useless.

It shows all the failed steroid shots, nerve blocks, and OA/OP/PN BAD drug reactions. Medicare limited nerve blocks to 3 per year. Not that they work, but those side effects sure do. I never exceed what is prescribed even if the pain med does not work well. Loretabs worked half way, before the Feds took out half the Tylenol. The new NORCO is worthless and they changed the dye which means an allergy attack to go with it.

That alone should be enough evidence. No exceptions were made for those with diseases that cause chronic pain other than those with end stage Cancer in Hospice. And the younger you are the less apt that ER will give you pain med for real health issues.

I’ve a late 20’s niece who can’t keep food down, she too has Gastropresis, she can’t even get a anti-puke med when she is forced to go to the ER for uncontrollable puking that leads to dehydration they have to do a CT with no dye as she pukes that up, IDIOTS could put it in a IV line. And IDIOT Primary has not run a Gastric Delay test or sent her to a Gastro. She has to have referrals with her ins. But they sure put her on the liver damaging Cymbalta which is very addictive and causes seizures. Blood work shows liver damage, low glucose, anemia, and RA and no RA drugs are given. Small Seizures have become common. Obamacare has ruined what little medical care we had.
