Although PBS, it actually was/is an excellent series with little if any liberal bias. There are two other such series, one titled “The American Revolution”, the other, simply, “The Revolution”. They are probably on YouTube and/or DailyMotion as well.

It irks me about “400”. When I read multiple histories of the RevWar it varied from 200 to 400, often agreed as closer to 300. Just like the Spartans, and was thus often referenced.
By most histories only 9 MDers remained after 5-6 bayonet charges against Germans and Scots. Stirling was captured because he waa compromised, not because he just gave up.

They used to be legendary.
Now most ignore e RevWar.
MDers were unquestionably the best troops of the rebellion.

I think Camden is perhaps much worse.
Pustering fool Gates ran away.

Washington chose to believe the wrong reports.
But ultimately the manner inwhich troops conducted themselves in the Philly campaign would push the French into officially helping. (”Saratoga” is overrated as the reason for French involvement.)

It was the beginning of the long retreat to Trenton. During which the chaff of the summer soldiers was winnowed out from the true patriots.

Definitely check out episode 3 when you can. It deals with the Battle of Brooklyn/Battle of Long Island.

You are welcome.
How did you come across this (exactly) two year old ping? Have you been spending time in the WayBack Machine? :-)

I have a very unusual method to searching Free Republic. I use search engines to pull up threads on topics I'm interested in. Sometimes, I pull up older ones but they are still live!
I seriously thought this thread was from yesterday and not two years ago.
