Police have charged a Pennsylvania man with animal cruelty after he allegedly beat a horse after the animal collapsed Tuesday while pulling a heavy load on a rural road in Lancaster County.
Marvin M. Sensenig, 20, of Ephrata, Pa., was arrested Friday and faces two counts of cruelty to animals, Ephrata police announced in a statement.
“It is alleged that the defendant unreasonably struck a horse that was overburdened with a heavy load,” the statement says. “The horse expired shortly thereafter.”

Terrible. But this is not unusual treatment of horses for the Amish. My brother was a harness horse trainer/driver for many years. Others in the business would give or sell their horses unable to race, to the Amish because they make great buggy horses. He never would, he was keenly aware of how they were treated.
Man, a true ‘man-bites-dog’ story... an ‘Amish’ perp turns out to really be Amish.
Stories like this and the puppy mills don’t endear the Amish to me.
Stupidity is not limited to the Democrat Party.
Waiting to hear it from the media... Lone Wolf... Nothing to do with Amish... Religion had nothing to do with it... what could we have done differently as a nation to help this troubled youth with a bright future... Just turining his life around... we need to welcome more Amish into our communities... And of course, the horse acted stupidly.
Just imagine if every case of animal cruelty made the news... Not defending this guys actions in any way, but Heck, only a fraction of murders make the news.

I absolutely agree. I would add branding him with a hot iron in some tender parts. Everyone thinks the Amish are such great people. Not to animals! They use up their horses until they are exhausted and unable to work at all any more, and then send them on to kill auctions. They operate puppy mills and keep the dogs under horrific conditions. Nope, you won't find me buying anything made by Amish. I spit on them, the hypocrites. They are incredibly cruel to G-d's creations, innocent animals.

I have read that elsewhere. Maybe a good stiff jail sentence will help them lighten up just a bit.

I don’t think the things I’ve seen rise to the level of abuse,at least what would hold up in court.
The purpose of religion is to make people better, not to give them outdated practices to follow and tell them that that’s the way to win favor with God.
