Runner Raises $14,000 to Adopt Dog that Followed Him during 155-mile Race

Dion Leonard was ready to run 155 miles across four deserts in China for seven days. He wasn’t ready for a puppy companion to join him along the way.

The stray puppy, who has since been named Gobi, was nearby when the 2016 Gobi March 4 Deserts race started off on June 19. She decided to join in and lasted the full 22 miles of the first day, and Leonard said he noticed her hanging around the runners’ camp.

“On day two, I was at the start line for the race stage and she was standing next to me looking up at me,” Leonard told The Dodo. “I thought to myself this little dog isn’t going to last very long at my side as we raced off, but she ended up running the whole day and 23 miles distance.”

The dog is going “I’ve heard of long walks but this is ridiculous.”

I was wondering that too but maybe it's for the cost of quarantine if he's going to take it out of China.

“Getting Gobi to the U.K. is a long process, one that will take up to four months and see her medically checked, quarantined and fingers crossed cleared for entry,” Leonard said. “All this comes at a cost close to a whopping 5,000 pounds (about $6,500).”

From the article:

So Leonard decided he needed to adopt the pup and take her home with him. The problem: You can’t just bring pets into Scotland.

“Getting Gobi to the U.K. is a long process, one that will take up to four months and see her medically checked, quarantined and fingers crossed cleared for entry,” Leonard said. “All this comes at a cost close to a whopping 5,000 pounds (about $6,500).”

My daughter adopted a fostered dog that followed her home on a three mile bike ride. Problem was the dog’s nature was to run which it did and was later hit and killed by a car.

After her family moved back home they got a nice calm female yellow lab.

UNlike the muslim horde, individual dogs cannot enter UK whenever the mood strikes. The article says four month observation for the dog and medical check.

Don’t want any nasty lice sneaking in, eh what?

Dogs my breeding and nature love us. People that do not like dogs can not be trusted.

All my dogs have been rescue dogs. They crave to be taken home and loved. They will return that love and defend you to the death.

My last rescue dog El Leo (The Lion) came into my home and escaped the next day due to my bad fence, replaced soon after. He ran around the neighborhood for about an hour and was waiting on my front porch to come in. He looked at me and said with his eyes and smile, “hell no I am not leaving, life is good here.”

When I am sad Leo and Marisol, my other rescue dog, know. They come up and lick me and try to comfort me. When I let them in the house and sit on the couch I am covered with 160 pounds of love.

If someone was a real threat to me or my wife these gentle loving dogs would be hell on earth for the bad guy. Dogs sense and feel fear and bad intentions.

They are gentle but protective. When a stranger comes they go into protect mode, not aggressive but mind the perimeter as “you will not cross.” Once I say it is okay or shake the strangers hand, they know all is well and run up to the stranger demanding affection.

The UPS man was friends with my dog. When he came my dog would jump up into the open cab to be petted. One day it was a different UPS man and I went out to find a terrified man with 80 pounds of love in his delivery van. My dog was upset and whining and confused, but not aggressive. Once I went out and showed that all was okay everything was good. The dog got petted by the new delivery man.

I wish people were more like dogs!

ps
Hillary does not like dogs! That alone is reason enough not to vote for her.
