PHILADELPHIA — It was the fourth time Mike Abdullah was attending the class in basic combat medicine for civilians, and he still shook his head ruefully at the scenes playing out before him.
An 11-year-old boy lay on the ground and tried his best to be limp, dead weight, while a former Navy medic taught those around him the best way to carry him to safety. A female nurse in scrubs showed a group of adults and children how to locate the brachial artery and stop massive bleeding with the pressure of a single thumb. One of her male counterparts watched some of his young trainees wince as he taught them to apply and tighten tourniquets.
Abdullah, 61, and a community organizer - who lost a brother and four nephews to gun violence - recognized the importance of these lessons, especially for the younger crowd. He just wished they never had to be taught.

Certainly hope they are stressing the wearing of rubber gloves or such while handling blood of ‘strangers’ - especially in the neighborhoods or areas they are most likely to run across an adult ‘victim’.
Actually good idea when handling ANYONE’s blood.

Also same era figured if you were within ‘range’ of a nuclear blast, it would suffice if your sleeves were rolled down and neck buttoned and turn your back to the explosion.
(Guess they got that from the warnings of looking straight into the sun).
When I went to Submarine School when going up the free ascent tank part of the instructions were to hold your nose and grab your crotch.
Now in a tank of 105 foot depth and big enough to handle quite a few people wide, the ONLY good I could see coming out of the ‘grab’ was to keep your body aligned - which is easier if your hands are doing something, not just flailing around.
I'm not disagreeing with you but moving is usually an impossibility.
Most of these families are multi-generational welfare recipients, thanks to the democratic parties low expectations of them.
They'll live and die in the inner-city.
However, back when I was a kid, not every criminal was walking around with an atomic bomb :-)

If we are in nirvana, here in year 8 of the Obama era, why is it that issues such as drive by shootings, and violence in the inner city, are still such pressing problems???
How is it that the liberals in charge of our government in Washington, DC, have not been able to resolve these problems? How is it that Barack Obama has not been a positive role model for black youth, that they too can become president someday and all that, if they pull up their pants and do something productive with their lives???

Congratulations Demoncrats, your fervent wishes are coming true. You’ve worked long and hard to subvert and destroy any semblance of order and cultural cohesiveness in our once-great society. Things like this happening in Detroit where I grew up were unthinkable and other-worldly in it’s largely polite and functional culture.
