Vanity - After Convention, Trump should make a Civility Speech
Me | 07/15/16 | Self

Posted on 07/15/2016 11:09:33 AM PDT by Yaelle

I think that soon after the Convention, Trump can make history and rally everyone around him with a Civility Speech. He needs to announce it, act like its gonna be Yuge, then deliver a speech to every American about civility.

Some of the content should be:

- saying that he hopes everyone is either watching, or will watch it later on YouTube, even if they don’t like HIM because this is about all of us, not him

- saying that American civility will be a bully pulpit focus in his first 100 days in office, but that we can't wait til then; more people will die before then and a good leader needs to inspire greatness in others

- we all need to understand what “civilization” means. That it means kindness in a very general way, kindness to all, even those whom you can’t see. When you are civilized, that means not behaving with hot reactions like animals do, you treat people with CIVILITY

- how 250 years ago it was said that “America is great because she is GOOD.” Meaning you can trust her people. Meaning we strive to be lawful and treat others with civility. Politeness. We’ve lost that.

- a heartfelt plea to all Americans, all races, all professions (even if you are in law enforcement), to make a yuge effort to treat everyone you meet and everyone you don’t meet with civility and respect. Keep your towns and cities clean. Parks and streets are better not filled with trash. Open doors, smile, be decent.

- not to think about how others have done you wrong or threatened you in the past but to treat each new person with respect. Not generalizing that “all cops” or “all people of a certain culture or race” deserve any less than human kindness and civility.

- Confidence that we as Americans are up to it and can do it.

- surprise each other with our kindness and decency and it will make America a better place to live and a safer place to visit (he can quote from other countries’ recent warnings at how unsafe some of our cities have become)

- make it short and concise

You remind me of those ads that say, “Diversity is what makes us strong.”

You believe the word “Civility” should effectively replace “Diversity” in that ad.

“Civility” is over-rated and ALWAYS used successfully against Republicans.

Republicans have been “too civil” because they have been forced into being Politically Correct by the liberals who are truly uncivil (but who are always justified in their attacks on the lack of “Republican civility”).

Get your head out (again).

Not civility in politics. Civility in inner cities, etc. it would have to be to All Americans but wouldn’t apply to any Americans behaving as humans. Just those who react only as animals and don’t have proper civilizing parents and communities.

I agree with you completely but I do think it would be a good thing re BLM. And I am completely outvoted here so I should shut up. It was just an idea.

Sorry, but this would be seen as a huge “Do as I say, not as I do” from Trump.

Better he just model it himself.

Not civility in politics. I guess I wrote my idea out too poorly. I meant the speech to be a call to decency for the people in our cities who react like animals, not people, who trash their surroundings and retaliate for every perceived slight like animals do. We should not use bigotry of low expectations and allow generations of humans to decivilize.

But I am pretty much alone here with this idea so I should shut up.

Sadly we had to put her to sleep yesterday. My heart is very sore. Her kidney test was doubly bad, no functioning at all. Miss her so badly, can’t wear makeup today cause I keep crying.

And then I thought of the BLM and cop killings and had this stupid idea here. I still think it would be a home run for Trump. Maybe he delivers it after the next cop killing.

We need more than civility, is the problem. We need love. By and large, most white folks already are being civil, if superficially so. Their snarks usually are saved for private life.

I may be so repetitive I am giving you and everybody a headache but I’m saying it again. We need a spiritual life saving dose of Jesus. And nobody can shove it down our throats against our will.

Can’t use sanity instead of civility because that would appear racist.

We need to admit that many citizens have decivilized.

####. I’m so sorry :(

It’s not a stupid idea. Said the right way it would get him a few percent more easily.

I feel very bad.

This was definitely not to be a call for civility in politics. I didn’t explain myself well. Civility in the parts of cities where killing cops is thought to be a fair reaction to perceived slights.

No leader does this, no one calls ALL (most) OF THESE SHOOTING STORIES what they are, problems with animal-like behavior on the part of the young man who is shot. We need to expect civilized behavior from all Americans, and people need to rise up and act like human beings, not react like wounded animals all the time. Why do we allow whole segments of society to decivilize?

I thought it would be great to finally have a leader stand up and place blame for the black / cop conflict ON PERSONAL BEHAVIOR.

But this was a dumb idea so forget it, I’m sorry.

It’s going to need love.

Now one question I have right now, knowing that God can providentially arrange things, is how is the announced Veep hopeful Mr. Pence on evangelism?

Cruz liked to talk about God a lot, but it was reportedly strained and inauthentic. I wonder if Pence can outdo Cruz here. Someone who knows he needs for the Lord to be moving before he can act, would be a very valuable evangelist. Maybe the experience with a failure pressing his religious freedom act, could help him be sensitive to such issues. There is a time for every purpose under heaven, as the Preacher of Ecclesiastes told us.

Sounds like a whole lot of turn the other cheek, mamby pamby kumbaya-talk. I just don't see the point in it.

I'm sorry, this is not what is needed. Keep talking plain and clear and leave the emotional BS to the left.

Terrible idea, but I understand what you're saying. This would have been useful two decades ago, but currently, it's entirely the wrong mindset we need from a leader, IMO. All of the above is already a given, and does not need to be repeated at this juncture.

Hammer away on the weaknesses of the opposition that people care about most, don't try to impose your differences that, while mattering, are “nitpicking” and are just not that useful.

Stick to the overall strategy that has gotten him where he is now.

It goes deeper than that even. We have a sin and hate problem.

My instinct would be Hell no.

Now a speech laying out who’s in charge and what he’s gonna do, yup.

Well, I agree with your last post here. But I think your application to Trump was misplaced. The road to freedom may not be pretty but is absolutely necessary. The “incivility” in our midst does not originate from Trump and the Right, but the Left, BLM, and the Islamic Regime who want to steal our liberties and our very lives.

War isn’t pretty but sometimes necessary to preserve or regain freedom. The effort is itself is in part an effort to restore civility by means of a free society.

Disagree. Democrats have the patent on accusing others of doing the opposite of what they themselves do. Trump hasn’t exactly been Mr. Congeniality. Not saying he should start being so. IMO he should tone it down some. He’s already established he can be very tough in that department.

When HRC suggests that Trump would use the IRS against them...this (on top of the giant pile of dung she already dominates) should really give people cause to doubt their sanity, but it’s my view that HRC has really damaged her credibility. THIS COULD BE a fatal wound, if properly played. You and I and ten thousand others can equivocate endlessly about whether this is good for the country or bad for the country or this policy did this for those over there and we’re a nation of tolerance and diversity and every other piece of happy horses**t such shameless liars can come up with.

But everybody in the entire universe saw her lie her ass off. Everybody.

And I think that is the precise crux of what DJT should focus on. Lying your ass off is not liked. It is very bipartisan. This is selling theory. “She says you should have free college tuition. And she says she’s going to create millions of jobs. You know you can believe her, don’t you? The whole world knows how much they can trust Hillary Clinton. She lies like crazy, to Congress, the FBI and gets away with it. So if you support her, don’t be surprised if you get the same results.”

Selling and anti-selling are acts connecting people to pain. IMO Trump needs to invoke the fabulous results of the past 7 years and simply invoke the image of HRC going much farther than even 0bama did.

Conclusions are vastly more powerful when they are constructed in the minds of the one making the conclusion.

Any solution architected by men is going to have flaws.

The big problem we have, is that what we call conservative has almost entirely lost the ability to speak out of the love aspect of the gospel. The left took (and twisted) this, out of it being left to them by default. The nature of dialogue, like other natures, abhors a vacuum. Something is drawn to fill it.
