The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Good afternoon Gardeners. It's a really nice, sunny, hot day here in Missouri. 88 degrees at the weather post. I planted some more endive today in a pot and set it in the shade of a tree next to a raised bed.

Saw a few Yukon Gold potatoes peeking out, and dug them up for lunch, then hilled up the rest. Now that the rain has quit, I am hauling water in the watering can from the rain barrels to water the plants in pots.

The rest I water once or twice a week using the swimming pool water and a hose, using gravity. Still haven't set out the Rosemary plant. Can't figure out where would be the best location.

Hope every one is doing well. Prayers up for all. Have a great weekend and God Bless.

It’s 95 and sunny here. My garden is suffering from my not wanting to go out there. The birds can have the blueberries and blackberries.

The gypsy moth caterpillars have decimated some of our trees. My seedlings and transplants are doing great, as are our lettuces and herbs. It was 82 degrees here in Massachusetts today. Beautiful!

LOL. Been there and done that. Heat is awful. If I don’t make it early morning, I wait till late about 15 or 20 minutes before the skeeters come out.

Sometimes I do take 10 minutes to do a little weed pulling, and see if the plants in pots need a drink afternoon, when the shade hits that part of the raised bed.

I like the high 70s and low 80s. We’ll be rising up there more and more - getting into our dry season soon.

That’s good. Haven’t tried growing Broccoli yet. May not ever. Trying to learn to like it. I have some of the baby broccoli from Schwans for stir fry, and pick up some from the organic produce Isle once a month for microwaving.

Asparagus winding down in upstate ny. Spinach bolting, watermelon, cukes and pumpkins coning up. Strawberries got a late start but are here.

Hi Gang. We just got back from 6-days at our trailer. The six hills of Indian Squash are up as well as well as a couple of potatoes plants. Barb’s garden is doing well.

Tomorrow, we will inspect the bee hives. More later.

Our cukes and melons are under a row cover. Haven’t been planted for too long. One of the last items to go in here.

We have some summer squash - leaves are pretty big. I need to check and see if there’s any action regarding the produce though.

Tomatoes and bell peppers going gangbusters here at my house. More cherry tomatoes than you can shake a stick at - don't know what to do with the surplus except flash-boil them and can them. Pole beans, okra, some corn, beets, all doing well. Have two big planters of habanero, jalapeno, and pimento peppers that have taken off like weeds. Living here in Alabama, we have an extended growing season, so we're getting ready to put in some squash and pumpkins. The wife started two avocado trees from pits over the winter, and they're loving it outside on her planter's bench. I've got three pecan trees potted that I dug up from seedlings a couple years back, and they'll be ready to plant next year. Also started my mini-orchard with two varieties each of apples and peaches. Next year I want to complete it with Anjou pear and Ranier cherry trees.

I sometimes freeze the extra tomatoes, or especially for cherry tomatoes, dehydrate them. A little salt and garlic makes a good snack.

Woohoo! The gardening list!

I managed to get my entire 2100 square foot garden weeded this week! That’s probably a first.

I found it was much easier when I could sit down right next to the plants. I don’t have trouble sitting on the ground, but I have trouble pulling weeds while kneeling because of my shoulder. Sitting down, it was actually very relaxing to pull weeds.

I’m already adjusting my plans for next year’s garden to include more sitting space. I probably will never get the whole almost-2-acres weeded, but I can focus on the corn and veggie patch. 3 rows planted and one left blank ought to give me the space I need.

The garlic is getting closer. I picked scapes this week. But I also accidentally pulled some volunteer garlic while pulling weeds, and it was too young yet. I’m making spaghetti sauce now with them, though :)

My corn and beans sprouted fast, but the tomatoes, herbs, and melons haven’t shown yet. I know they have another week before it’s time to worry, but I can’t help it. They were late enough getting out there, and other people have little green tomatoes already.

Right now, I’m looking for a sickle mower attachment that will fit my little tractor. The grass in the big field is too tall for the regular mower, and I’ll need a sickle mower at some point anyway, just to harvest my herbs and grains with.

The elderberries are blooming. And my strawberries are producing already. Life is good :)

Re: Your Rosemary plant - put it in the sunniest spot possible...the more hours the better...and go easy on the water...but don’t ever let it completely dry out. 10-10-10 for fertilizer a few times this summer. Got that? LOL!

We’ve had a nice growing season here in southern WI. May was really cold, but June is making up for it. We’re having rain right on time once a week. The days are sunny when they need to be and overcast when they need to be.

Yesterday I had the day at ‘home.’ I’m in the middle of selling my little farm, and I now consider my ‘home’ out here on the BIG farm...160 acres, with Beau. :)

I got the entire ‘temporary’ veggie garden weeded and mulched with MOUNDS of hay. Man, I love how that snuffs out the weeds! And I got the house yard mowed (I also consider THAT chore, ‘gardening’) and since Beau pulled out the butt-ugly Barberry shrubs across the front, I now have a Blank Canvas that needs filling. The house is REALLY TALL in the front, so of course it BEGS for a climbing rose...but, well...I gotta think on this!

We’ve been enjoying salads of lettuces, kale and radishes this week and everything I’ve planted looks fan-tastic and the Beagle (Chief) is keeping the rabbits out of the garden, so even without fencing, there has been no critter nibbling.

Good Dog!

trisham:" The gypsy moth caterpillars have decimated some of our trees. "

Consider going by a nursery, or even a 'Big Box store', nd get some BT ( Bacillus Thuringiensis), a natural occuring , organic control agent.
It will give them all an infectious flu which will kill them ; however, don't use if you are trying to attract butterflys.
