The only song I know that admits to running out of words:

“You’re my pride, my joy, etc.”

Apparently this song was written as a joke. Record producers had wanted another smash hit like “Happy Together”, a song disliked by several in the band. They wrote deliberately wrote sappy lyrics like “Gee I think you’re swell” thinking it would never sell. Go figure. Not a bad tune though.

>>Naw, that’s the only thing that rhymes with gee I think youre swell...aaahhh<<

Not quite — they tortured the pronunciation to make “etcetera” rhyme with “better.”

That explains the “etc.”lyric. And it makes it VERY funny.

I liked this song better once I learned it was written as a joke.

Another fun fact about the Turtles: Three members of the band went on to join the Mothers of Invention.

The lyrics are hilarious!

Non sequiturs just to make a rhyme (common in Top 40 Pop)

Such as

“Your looks intoxicate me
even though your folks hate me”

and uber shallow lines such as

“I really think you’re groovy
Let’s go out to a movie”

it reminds me of lyrics like Dion’s “My Private Joy”:

“Oh well Susie
is a doozy
with a pony tail
She wears gold polish on her fingernails”

I understand that their U.S. label, White Whale Records, treated them pretty bad.

Yes, check out the Frank Zappa movie “200 Motels” if you haven’t already. Flo and Eddy are cast members.

Yeah, I’ve seen it. One of the strangest films I’ve ever watched.

IIRC, the Mothers performed “Happy Together” on their Live at the Filmore, “mudshark” album.
