A high school senior headed to serve in the U.S. Marines was surprised with an early graduation after it was discovered he was going to miss the scheduled graduation.

Homestead High School senior Jainiel Price sported a smile on his face as he walked on stage before friends and family, Friday. Price and his classmates did a practice run-through ceremony, but for Price, it was the real thing. “I’m very appreciative, I get to see him graduate now,” Price’s mother, Chunkier Price said.

Price’s family was in the audience. “I’m proud because it’s always been his dream,” said Price’s younger brother, Ian Joyner.

School stands head and shoulders above all. They could have hit it out of the park by telling everyone he was graduating early, they were welcome to come and celebrate with hi and if any seniors wanted to walk with him, they could.

Price leaves for the 13-week training camp Monday.
Thirteen weeks on Parris Island is bad enough, but doing them in June, July and August. Yeow! Lots o'luck ...

Good for him, but don’t they usually schedule DEP so you don’t ship until after the regular graduation? Glad to see they were able to work something out though.

Florida.

If this was California, he’d be expelled instead.

Good luck to the boy. Parris Island is hot as hell in the summer. Enduring “The Crucible” in late summer is sheer torture.

He thinks THIS is the graduation he will remember.

Unless he has dementia, he'll remember ALL his graduations from ALL his education and training, both civilian and military.

He could have been Best Price; then his fate would have been sealed.

Sales, and he better be very good at it!

Maybe the MOS he wanted was only available at that time.

My nephew had to wait almost a year for a slot to open up for master of arms.

My Marine boot training at PI was late April thru the second week of July. The majority of recruits arrive in June or early July after graduating HS. PI is very busy thru the summer months into the early Fall. When I went thru basic they had flag days, based on a heat/humidity index. Newbies caught a break in the sense their outdoor activities would be curtailed if the heat index was marginally high. A black flag day (top tier) meant all strenuous outdoor activity, for all recruits, was dialed back.
