Even the zoo director has admitted the crowd was a problem. And the police report backs that up stating witnesses said the gorilla initially appeared to be protecting the child, but after onlookers began screaming, he became “agitated and scared” and began dragging the child.

So clearly there is room for major improvement when the exhibit re-opens next week with a higher barrier.
