Given its severe impact, that's why the NCAA is still to this day extremely reluctant to impose the "death penalty." Indeed, during the Jerry Sandusky scandal, just the threat of using it was enough to get Penn State to the negotiating table to hash out the bowl ban/reduction in scholarship penalties, because losing football would have financially devastated Penn State and it would have rippled through the entire Big Ten conference.
I don’t know if the Southwestern Conference could have been saved, regardless of what happened to SMU.
As the saying goes, the most important thing in politics is sincerity. If you can fake that, you've got it made. That's why he was a successful politician and why Hillary isn't.
That’s true—the SWC had already gotten a pretty bad rap by the late 1970’s playing “loose” with the NCAA rules—and it even affected Oklahoma and Texas.
I simply don’t understand what a coach and/or university is supposed to do if a girl claims she was assaulted by an athlete other than advise her to contact the police. Which is what should have been done in the first place. Let the school find out about the claim from the police.
Are they supposed to accept the girl’s complaint as fact and “convict” the player without trial? Do that and they’re charged with racism.
One girl sued Baylor saying the university was “indifferent” to her claim of assault. What exactly does that mean? Was she upset because they didn’t immediately call a press conference and announce the player’s name and say that he had been accused of sexual assault? That automatically ruins the player’s reputation if he’s innocent. And they can’t identify the claimant or she’d sue for her reputation being damaged.
When recruiting is the coach supposed to point out to the recruit that “Our university does not condone black athletes raping girls so if that’s in your plans you need to go to Miami.” (That’s a joke to remind everyone of Jimmy Johnson’s days at Miami.) I doubt many moms would allowed their kid to sign with that university. “Are you accusing my son of being a thug?”
I don’t know what exactly happened at Baylor or what didn’t happen. But if Starr is responsible so is the AD and every coach. And let me say that Starr proved himself to be a fraud by praising Clinton. And I’m a huge Baylor fan. My wife said “This would have to happen the year we finally joined the Bear Club.” If they get rid of Briles they might as well volunteer for the death penalty.
OU was in the Big 8.
Wasn’t Arkansas leaving for the SEC the first nail in the coffin?
And meanwhile back at Penn State.........
“bILL”is a total reprobate. He should have been tried and convicted in the Senate but they shirked their responsibility. Republican Kay Bailey Hutchinson of the state of Texas led the capitulation . She was and is a disgrace to this country. Horrible establishment whore. Sickening capitulation in the face of the most evil, vile , adulterous , raping, sexual assaulting president in our great history aided and abetted by his lesbian wife — the worst Secretary of state in history. GO TRUMP!!
