A small victory for three 4-H clubs in Silver Bow County after a judge temporarily reinstates their council leaders. A temporary restraining order allows the Silver Bow 4-H council president, vice president, secretary and treasurer to retain their officer positions for now. They were all fired by the Montana university extension office which governs the 4-H program.

Why were they fired and is it normal for a university extension to administer 4-H.
Yes, the 4-H program is administered out of the state office at the Land Grant University. At least it is at Kansas State University where I work.

None of the stories gives any indication of the reason(s) for the appointment of a new board. Pretty hard to see why this is important if nobody knows what’s going on...
Extension offices are usually affiliated with a state university, and sponsor the local 4-H group.
In Virginia, the extension office system is run through Virginia Tech, which provides most of the funding for extension offices in the counties. The counties normally supplement the funding the extension office gets from the State.
My guess is that each State program gets at least a portion of its funding from the USDA, but I am less familiar with the specifics of the federal part.
I don’t remember the Boy Scouts being funded by the Feds....

4-H is totally different organization, should have no association with BSA.
4-H in Iowa is administered via our Land Grant, Iowa State University. 4-h is a USDA program.
Pretty common in Ag organizations in my experience.
Although the State Extension offices funded through the Land Grant University usually provides significant start-up guidance and ongoing dollars for the local 4H and other youth programs, most State Extension Specialists have very little time to get involved in 4H, and don't do so unless there's an accusation that somebody is mishandling the money or membership.
The fact that nobody is talking about the cause and that there appear to be partisans on both sides probably means it's about personality conflicts.
State officials say they didn’t comply with a “Corrective Action Plan” issued last November, local folks said they were never given the “Corrective Action Plan”.

“The letter, dated April 29 and signed by Todd Kesner, Montana 4-H Center for Youth Development director in Bozeman, contends that Berryman and Widhalm failed to:
- Provide timely response to requests from the Butte-Silver Bow MSU Extension office, headed by Extension Agent Kellee Anderson;
- Provide information, equipment or knowledge from the office;
- Work cooperatively in a courteous, respectful manner … appropriate for a positive role model for youth;
- Accept direction, supervision and support from 4-H faculty and staff;
- Cease public negative communications about MSU Extension and 4-H by first sharing concerns “respectfully and civilly with Kellee Anderson, and then with Todd Kesner or Steve Siegelin, if needed.”
Apparently Kellee Anderson got her job in 2013, and wanted to run things her way, and things went downhill quickly from there. As a complete outsider, the problem looks pretty easy to identify.
Agree, local crap seems the point.
Kellee looks kind of young. My guess is that changes might have been needed, but she wasn’t mature and experienced enough to get the job done, and it came down to a ‘my way or the highway’, with her bosses backing her up instead of solving the problem.
I always thought that 4-H was structured much like the Boy Scouts (independent (mostly) from the Feds).
According to USDA itself: "The 4-H Youth Development Program is the youth outreach program from the Land- grant Universities, Cooperative Extension Services, and the United States Department of Agriculture."
It isn't solely a USDA program. In most active agricultural counties, the extension agent has a lot more to do with 4-H than anyone.

YES, sorry, got sidetracked,,, I had the same problem with the original story/report and NOW the re-in statement.
Basically, I wanted to put out some thought about kids in really rural America who don’t have to worry about where to pee/poo.
They are also getting ... what would be a proper word for crapped on by cowardly elected ..........?
