This is a very sad tale :-(
I do not see how the gun manufacturer is at fault though.
Thank God it was the negligent officer and not his totally innocent young son that was hurt.
I’d rather die a thousand deaths than be responsible for a gun accident that killed a child! [Better to have never been born]
Prayers up for this unfortunate man.
To be safe and not sorry do the following.
Consider ALL guns to be loaded and likely to fire.
If you always act so even when you are 100% certain the gun is unloaded you are a wise man.
Never, ever, let a child have access to a gun...you are the adult so please act like one!
There are two things that have always terrified me... the possible consequences are just horrific.
People using poor judgement with firearms around children.
Pilots using poor judgment concerning the spinning prop on a plane.
Sounds like the ex-officer is 100% responsible and should have been charged for allowing accesses to his firearm by a child. Of course, his admitted negligence led to a far worse punishment than the law provides.
I didn’t know that Hip holster’s had Grip safeties...
Glock is not at all liable.
Glock should sue this guy for being a dangerously negligent parent.
OTOH, there IS evidence the NYC police cannot hit the broad side of a barn.
I don’t know about this one. It sucks for both he and his kid. But, I am pretty sure that guns should be secured when you around three year olds.
I knew we always had guns in the house as kids. But I cannot recall ever holding one in my hands until I understood what it could do.
I think the attorneys represented the Gun Manufacturers insurance company. It's all about the Benjamins, and more often than not, settling is the fastest and cheaper way to go. When the lawyers get $300-800 per billable hour (or part thereof), it adds up quickly, especially when more than one attorney is involved.
The cop screwed up, and the guy should have gotten NOTHING! But, this is modern America, where fault is a fleeting shadow of truth!
Glock is not liable. If you are stupid enough to buy a gun that is not safe OUTSIDE of the holster, it’s your fault.
More AD with glocks than anything else. (the internet is full of videos of professional law enforcement types shooting themselves).
Is that really the case in CA with it's “Deep Pockets” laws?
If Glock is 1% responsible but is the only party that has money, I think they pay 100%.
A few months ago there was an article about LAPD or Sheriffs Deputies having accidental shootings with SW MPs. I haven’t seen anything recent on that. Anyone else? Apparently the Dept. had recently issued them new firearms.
maybe being shot by his son will teach him a valuable lesson about beating his children....
Glock should have fought the case until the negligent cop died of old age. The manufacturer made a gun exactly the way purchasers want it, and the cop handled it like it was made by Nerf. [Note: I love and own Glock, but I would never treat one of their products casually.]
So.... he leaves his Glock lying around, his kid picks it up and shoots him and... he blames Glock???
High score on the BS-o-meter.
Ditto! Once, 50+ years ago, I had a shooter two slots down from me fire his "Finely Tuned" Colt 1911 which proceeded to go fully automatic! Luckily for all concerned, he was able to control the muzzle direction but put at least 3 rounds through the roof covering the firing line! Obviously..., an occasion which will stick in one's mind!!!
While Glocks are more prone to accidental discharge than many others, the gun operated perfectly - the idiot who owned it did not....
Where do I get this crap? From the article—which doesn’t mean it’s correct.
The settlement was based on the “fact” that the gun needed very little pressure to fire. Maybe that fact was not correct, and just an excuse to settle—I don’t know, I wasn’t there.
But, if that fact is correct—although you say it couldn’t be—and that particular gun was dangerously flawed, doesn’t it stand to reason that the officer would have noticed it over the three years it was in his possession? That was the point of my comment.
What happened was a tragedy, but NOT a sign of a defective gun. This case needs to be thrown OUT.
What happened was a FELONY, He belongs in Prison, he willfully, knowingly, and Negligently left a loaded weapon in a place where a child had access to it, that child Almost KILLED A POLICE OFFICER. He should be Charged Criminally and spend 20 to life behind bars for this Criminal Negligence that almost cost a Police Officer his Life.
Glocks come with about a 5-6 pound trigger, just for information. I have lightened mine to 3 pounds, but most importantly, I don’t let kids have it. The whole thing reeks of lawyerly BS.
