An Indian woman has given birth to her first child at the age of 70, it was revealed today.
Daljinder Kaur gave birth last month to a boy following two years of IVF treatment at a fertility clinic in the northern state of Haryana with her 79-year-old husband.
It is thought she is the oldest woman in the world to give birth - taking the mantle from Rajo Devi Lohan - who was also 70 when she gave birth to daughter Naveen following treatment at the same clinic.
Hitting out at critics, Mrs Kaur said she was not too old to become a first-time mother, adding her life was now complete with the arrival of their son, called Armaan.
Her husband, Mohinder Singh Gill, added they were not worried about the future as 'God will take care of everything'.
The baby was conceived using the couple's own egg and sperm, the news agency AFP reports.
He is now 'healthy and hearty' after weighing just 4.4lb (2kg) when he was born on April 19, said a statement released by the clinic, the National Fertility and Test Tube centre.

Because they just don’t have enough people in India.
Genesis 17:17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, "Will a child be born to a man one hundred years old? And will Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?
That’s nothing. President Tyler’s grandkids are still alive.
How selfish does a couple have to be to undergo IVF at ages 70 and 79?
[It is thought she is the oldest woman in the world to give birth]
Sarah, wife of Abraham had Issac when she was 90
GENESIS 17:17
Then Abraham bowed down to the ground, but he laughed to himself in disbelief. “How could I become a father at the age of 100?” he thought. “And how can Sarah have a baby when she is ninety years old?”
Another argument against the inherently abusive procedure known as IVF.
There is a difference between faith+love+miracle (Abraham and Sarah) vs pride+ Petri dish+hard cash.
Let me put it this way: Isaac was a child of promise. This couple’s offspring is a child of purchase

I’m not quite that old yet, but I already know better than to have any more kids...
Yes, and they didn’t need two years of IVF (or the untold numbers of unborn children sacrificed during that process).
Selfish people are the rule on this planet, rather than the exception, so that doesn’t surprise me much.
However, that a doctor would toss all ethical standards out the window to assist them, well, that is worrying.
Given that Abraham had several children with another wife after Sarah died, I think he was being a little disingenuous here.
Either the news agency AFP is wrong about this, or the mother's eggs (or embryos) were frozen decades ago.
That's their business. I believe that if God weren't on board with this pregnancy, this child wouldn't have been born...
Do you believe that about every event that occurs, or just some?
Don't really know how to respond to that, except to say that when the spark of life is involved, I believe that God's definitely "nearby".
This near-miraculous event sure seems like a blessing, to me...
Given that God creates the child's immortal soul, that has to be correct.
I certainly agree that the Holy Spirit is the “Lord and Giver of Life” to every child conceived, even if conceived wrongly or unnaturally. Yet this a very common thing: because children, of incomparable God-given dignity each and every one, are too often brought into existence by unseemly means: surrogacy, prostitution, careless fornication, IVF, as lab experimental subjects, or even by the rape of captured women, as ISIS does.
Each of these children, of course, is beloved in the eyes of the Lord of Life. That doesn’t mean the *way* the child was conceived, was the way God would have us do.
They can start walking towards Germany......
