I had a pretty good morning. Hiked the Lake June Scrub State Park and good shots of the scrub jay and towhee. Came home to find the flycatcher posing in a ficus tree in our front yard; got his pic through the car window.

Took a bike ride and found a great egret, a snowy egret and tricolor heron in the same small stream. The snowy and the tricolor worked the great egret. They were positioned about 50 apart. The great egret spent his time trying to shoo off each of them. As one avoided the great egret, the other feasted on minnows. LOL! The great egret spent all his time and energy attempting to defend his stream from two conspiring free loaders.

We have the Spotted Towhee in these parts, also known as rufus sided, I think.
Seen this morning while walking my dog - along with a bald eagle, a flock of seagulls (not the band), several robins, juncos and two turkey vultures circling up high. There are also two deer laid down and ruminating in our side yard right now.

We live on a small lake and have so many birds especially this time of year. My favorite is a pair of kingfishers that skim the surface looking for fish. We also have a large Heron.

We were painting a house beige. A blackbird flew in through the open door and collided multiple times with the wet walls before making it out again. Its appearance was so modified I thought it might set off a bird-mania. Imagine a black mottled beige bird. He looked awesome. Bet he has a hard time attracting a mate. Birds aren’t into diversity.

Please add me to your bird ping! I get strange birds every year up here. Last year our mountain chickadees showed up in two types. One was white and black the other had a tarnish orange color on them.

We have resident Spotted Towhees, and Scrub jays here at the ranch. Being exactly between Lakes Mathews, and Perris we do get occasional visits by Herons, and Egrets, and often see formations of Geese flying overhead.

We sit on our deck cooking out and watch the kingfishers but have never tried to get close.

Added bonus? A male Ring-neck Pheasant has made our back woodpile his home for some reason. He’s been here for 2 weeks; we’ve named him, ‘Grover,’ though he may end up named ‘Dinner’ if he pesters my garden! ;)

Nice shots! Little green herons are among my favorite wading birds. The can be pretty clownish.
