Yeah, I won the hula hoop contest in the 5th grade for Field Day. Was the only blue ribbon I ever won. Don’t think I could do that any longer. :(

And that song you posted should be my theme song except I don’t pop pills. Well I might in a sec ‘cause I got a headache going. No break dancing head spins for me today. :(

HAH ... my wife is a little skinny Asian and she has a hula hoop because she LOVES to excercise .... I can whip it around one and half turns before it falls listlessly at my feet

lol...I envy her! I’m sure I would be like you. I used to be able to do cart wheels and jump rope, too. I wanna go back for a time and be my daughter’s age. When I was young, I always wanted to be older so I could have freedom.

Lol...what foolish critters we were. Just goes to show, humans are perpetually unsatisfied. ;) It’s our big brains that are our downfall.

The Soviet people in those photos look very wealthy and well-dressed compared to what I was told about that era.

Was I lied to? Propaganda, maybe?

I think it was a sign of the times in the West, and probably even in the Soviet Union, to go out looking well-kempt back then. When I was a little girl in the early 70s and traveled to England with my mom to see her relatives, it was a big deal to go on a plane. You HAD to have new clothes and be dressed up. I loved the cute little duds she bought for me. Then, as an adult, I had an older friend named Karen. She grew up in the 50s/60s. She never went out without her hair done up...she wore it teased up like they used to do when she was young...and make up and her clothes neatly pressed. Handbag and shoes to match her outfit.

Dennis Prager has talked about his on his radio show and written at least one column about it...probably more:

One man wore jacket and tie at high school graduation

Thanks for the Prager link. I read it all.

I find it hard to defend my insistence on formality; I just cant find the words or formulate an argument sometimes.

That article helped coalesce my argument, so thanks.

Oh great...that’s neat you think along the sane lines as Prager. I’m very informal. I should be called the anti-beaversmom. But I do understand the importance of it at special occasions. I was very surprised to see kids PERFORMING at the same piano recital as my little girl come to it wearing baseball caps, ratty t-shirts, and sneakers.
