Breitbart ^ | 4/20/2016 | Jerome Hudson

St. Petersburg, Florida, resident Ryan Hein says he “couldn’t believe” that he was able to pull in a 400-pound Goliath grouper with nothing more than a homemade jig, two hooks, and a number-11 wrench.

“A lot of mechanics know that you don’t really use an 11 for anything,” Hein said. “At least I never have.”

What’s a number 11 wrench? I’ve heard of an 11 mm wrench, but not a number 11.

If he didn’t release it, he should clean it and eat it, every last little bit.

Was just a regular 11 millimeter open end/box end wrench.

It was an 11mm open/box wrench with the hooks and line tied to the closed end.. It’s shiny and got the fishes attention.

I’d be more impressed if he used a #11 fly hook. Bait dunker.

11 mm is a very odd size of wrench. I don’t think I have one or have ever had need of one.

I don’t remember much about the 11mm use rate, but if you DON’T have it, you’ll need it. Just Murphy’s law in action...

Goliath grouper, commonly called jewfish, are totally protected from harvest in Florida waters.

Grouper is a quite a tasty fish. I figure he would have an easy time selling it off the boat if he knew where to go.

Does that mean if he didn’t release the fish, it’s a crime?

Grouper the size of red snapper or sea bass, I would agree. Don’t know about a 400 lb monster, tho.

Yes you will.....

But just substitute your trusty 7/16 wrench. Same size.

Too bad he didn’t let it go. Those big guys are fishing’s equivalent of the 800-lb gorilla and always get the best spawning grounds and babes.

I’d opt for a 38-25-38 wench.
