Champagne was known where I cut my teeth (the US Army in the 60’s) as nothing more than liquid panty remover.
The higher the price of the panties, the higher price of the champagne.

And I don’t mean that in a derogatory way, in Saigon you would be asked if you wanted to buy that girl a bottle of champagne? The price dictated what girl you got.

Sure. I know we want our leaders to be completely 100% error free machines, clear of any avarice, pride or weakens, but in the end, they are humans with all that goes with that.
And they make mistakes. Churchill made more right ones than wrong ones.
I kind of agree. First book I read by him was “Goodbye Darkness”, and have since read a number of others, including the Churchill stuff, which I thought were excellent.
Manchester was a through and through liberal, though.
The first was while he was watching the televised funeral of Winston Churchill.
The other was when he came home from the hospital to tell us that his father had died while they were talking.
