And for an encore... here is a short video of people promenading at the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris. For all of the shortcomings that came with living back then, I really think we have lost something in the elegance and manners of that era. The French call the decades before World War I the “Belle Epoch.”
super groovy!
Great post! Thanks.

A lot of rickshaws.
It ends with a contingent of military types walking by.
Lots of rickshaws in Youtube link in #24. Also, if you look really, really close, you can see a sign for hair growth formula that says “You grow hair, look like Stalin!”
Great find. The soldiers look like British Ghurkas. But the officers are clearly German. In those days China was more or less shared by, and divided up, between the great imperial powers.
That’s what it looked like to me too, but I couldn’t figure out why they would be German officers rather than British officers.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting. I’ll have to wait till later to watch more. There must be some people who could recognize their relatives in these films.
This is a good show. Thanks! (32 minutes into it)
All are now passed on. It’s interesting to contemplate the difference in time. The youngest boys likely fought in WW I, while the older people didn’t even live to see WW II.
Time will pass all of us by.
Wow!
