China’s Communist Party has a new target in its campaign against pernicious Western cultural influences: April Fools’ Day.
“The so-called Western April Fools’ Day does not conform to Chinese cultural traditions or socialist core values,” the party’s leading propaganda organ, Xinhua News Agency, said in a brief message on its official microblog Friday.
“Hope people won’t believe in rumors, start rumors or spread rumors,” the message concluded. …

Oddly, I agree with the Chinese government on this one. April Fool’s Day is irrelevant to modern western society too, where fools run the government, media, and centers of higher learning. All the really good hoaxes have become reality.
There is always the biblical irony that the fools of the world become wise to God, however. And it begins with being born again.
And by the way, the fools of the world aren’t either blind Pollyannas or Cassandras either. They’re the ones who acknowledge that heaven can make a difference, to the good, here and now, and yet the choice is now proffered from heaven to us, we who have heretofore been part of the Edenic folly.
So many people who talk about Heavenly Fathers really fantasize about Heavenly Hitmen.
