ORANGE Jim Reeves grew up eating burgers at Watsons.
The 57-year-old, who says his family moved to Orange in 1893 in a covered wagon ... before Watsons opened, says his parents also ate at Watsons. So did his grandparents.
Watsons, which opened in 1899 as the drugstore in downtown Orange, is one of the countys oldest businesses.
Its where Tom Hanks filmed part of That Thing You Do! Its also where George W. Bush once stopped in for a malt.
In Orange, Watsons is an icon.
Now, that icon and the town around it are about to change.

That Thing You Do!
I very much lived much of that music myself. Local hit.
I can’t wait. I love that place. My daughter and son-in-law live about two blocks away, and have been giving us updates on the renovation. Apparently they added a bar and will have ten beers on tap. As soon as the hysteria dies down, I will be there.
I live in Orange and I was there today for breakfast.
If you are familiar with Rockwell’s in Villa Park, it’s the same owners.
Is the Satellite Market still there?
No. Gone for a long time.
Thanks, I just wondered about the Satellite Market. I lived in Anaheim years ago and used to cruise through the Orange area. Funny, I remember the Satellite but don’t remember Watson’s.
No I haven’t. Always thought Villa Park was to be avoided. I will look it up.
I live in Irvine and have been to Watson’s before. Okay place but nothing spectacular. And no place to park.
That is a colossal understatement.
