Judge wants US to protect Trump associate's secret history

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. judge is urging the Obama administration to protect from public disclosure federal court records related to the once-secret criminal history of a former Donald Trump business partner.

In a highly unusual order prompted by The Associated Press, U.S. District Judge Brian M. Cogan said that unless the Justice Department acts before April 18, he will decide whether to make the court files public under the assumption that federal prosecutors don't care.

The case involves Felix Sater, a Trump business associate who had pleaded guilty in a major Mafia-linked stock fraud scheme and cooperated with the government. The AP reported in December that, even after learning about Sater's background, Trump tapped Sater for a business development role in 2010 that included the title of senior adviser to Trump. Sater received Trump Organization business cards and was given an office within the Trump Organization's headquarters, on the same floor as Trump's own.

"It seems to me that the government has a unique interest in keeping documents that relate to cooperation agreements under seal," the judge wrote in his order. "The government should speak and assert its position as to whether the public's right to access each document in the record is outweighed by a compelling need for secrecy."

Another daily “get Trump” article.

Chelsea Clinton married into the mob, why doesn’t the press mention that?

Felix Sater was born in Moscow, Soviet Union on March 2, 1966 to parents Mikhail and Rachel Sater. A Jewish family, the Saters emigrated to Israel when Sater was eight years old to avoid religious persecution in the Soviet Union, and eventually came to the United States, living in Baltimore, Maryland before settling in Brighton Beach, New York in 1974.

Wanna tell us instead how Ted is the coming of the Mormon Prophecy? The prophet, the prodigal son returned home to Utah to the glorious adulation and exhortations of Prior Glenn?

If they want to smear Trump through association, they’d have an endless amount of material because he’s associated with thousands of business people and there is always gonna be a percentage of them that have a stain on their record. Of course Trump wouldn’t have an empire in places like NYC, Vegas and Atlantic City without paying off criminals like Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid and other access peddlers.

They did the same thing for Obama. I guess there is no problem with doing it.

"More to come in October."

I seriously doubt the Clintons will try to make "mob connections" a campaign issue. Trump would plow them a new one.

That of all the thousands of business associates Trump has had, they've only been able to find this one guy who turned states evidence is a pretty good indicator that Trump is on the up and up.

But that coming savior is supposed to be LDA. Is Glenn saying that Ted is now LDS?

I have no idea, actually. It all seems very theatrical and very contrived - and to a normal person it would be embarrassing to be connected with in light of Glenn Beck’s involvement. It’s just a great big “Ewwwwwwwww” factor to me.

This has nothing to do with the original post. Must this be posted on EVERY thread?

I’ll stop when Cruz zealots stop posting 6 year old crap when they have nothing new about Ted to defend that makes sense.

LYIN TED LYING TED LIEING TED LIEING TED LYING TED LYIN TED there I’ve said it in almost all the variations that the Donald folks can use. Which reminds me, it’s time to listen to Variations on a enigma by Elgar.

The article posted is not six years old, but six hours old. I have no idea whether the poster is a Cruz zealot, a Kasich zealot, a Never Trump type, or someone who was just trying to post something that is in the news.

FR is a place, like Drudge, where articles of all types get posted, sometimes with a BARF Alert. This includes articles about Glenn Beck and Mitt Romney urging votes for Cruz before the Utah voting. It also includes Beck's pronouncements about Cruz as the object of some prophecy.

This is Jim Robinson's living room. Other than the regular fund-raising appeals that saturate all threads, it behooves us to stay on topic. If you think the content, which has nothing to do with Cruz, is wrong, say so. If you think the content has nothing to do with Trump, say so. If you think the article is engineered by people who are trying to ruin Trump, say so. But don't say "Oh yeah? Well Cruz is proclaimed the Messiah by Glenn Beck", because that will make some people think that there might be more to the story than it appears.

As the cats-paws do everything they can to "stop Trump" and elect Hillary. You can do your version of the Shake 'N Bake commercial by saying, "And I hayulped".

From the article in question:

The AP reported in December that, even after learning about Sater's background, Trump tapped Sater for a business development role in 2010 that included the title of senior adviser to Trump.

A presumably December 2015 article about goings on in 2010. Oooooh.

To my mind, 6 hour old reheated 6 year old dried up news, apparently.

Regardless, I fully realize what FR is and the value it has for legitimate and current discussion. But not when it suffices to veil innuendo and old news and complaints about Trump with all the other myriad establishment ankle biting that goes with it, too.

Yes, it is JR's 'living room' and we are guests. I also remember the "Go, Trump Go" thread and his greatly intentioned desire to rise above all this petty carping because one side or the other isn't getting their way and can't convince everyone "who just won't listen! Waaaaah"

I was for Ted until the end of 2015. I STILL like him. But I got tired of the back biting and carping and underhanded anti-Trump blather that many here (there's one in particular screeding out the hatred nearly every day) exhibit.

My position is that if you like your candidate, talk about him as positively and as often as you can. Not how you hate the other candidate and how far back in history you're willing to go to 'get him on something'.

MY bottom line is that if Ted gets the nomination, I will gladly and proudly vote for him. I daresay, nay predict, there are dozens here who would not do the same should Donald Trump win the nomination.

As a final caution, "staying on topic" is in the eye of the beholder and in some cases 'tit for tat' is needed to bring us back to reality.
