It was a noble cause. Bush left Iraq a stable country.

Like all successful dictators, Saddaam spent most of his resources on suppressing his political enemies, in his case the Kurds and the Shite. The Kurds were effectively autonomous with coalition protection. The Shite did not deserve our help. They deserved their oppression. There was no reason to go after Saddaam.

The first war on Saddaam was an even bigger mistake. It rallied the masses in Islamic world against us. It only served the interest of the Islamic aristocrats and western elite who bank Arab money. If we left well enough alone, he may even have gone after the Sauds who disserve an unfortunate end. But what do I know as a mere peasant

So what if Iraq conquered Kuwait and Saudi Arabia back in ‘91? We would have discovered shale oil eventually. And Saddam being a Caliph wouldn’t necessary be a bad thing. At least he’s secular.

Knowing what Bush knew about the Saudis, why did he go into Iraq so eagerly? No terrorist there blew anything up in America from there.
