The New York Times leaked off-the-record conversation with Donald Trump in January recently to Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed’s editor in chief Ben Smith wrote this week that Mr. Trump reportedly told the NY Times that his extreme position on deporting immigrants was fluid and developing.
Senator Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio lashed out at Trump and immediately demanded that Donald Trump order the release of the off-the-record conversation.
On Thursday the Times reported that there’s nothing in the Trump tapes. Sorry Ted. The Washington Examiner reported:
New York Times opinion page editor Andrew Rosenthal insisted Wednesday that his newspaper is not covering up a big story by refusing to release an off-the-record portion of its interview with Donald Trump.
In a Wednesday blog post, Rosenthal told Times public editor Margaret Sullivan that portions of the meeting were meant to be “off the record. But he acknowledged that a recording of the board’s talk with Trump was shared with other reporters at the Times, which may have resulted in some details being leaked to the public that were intended to be kept private.
He said, however, that the Times is not covering up any information related to the presidential campaign that would be crucial to the public’s knowledge.
“These [editorial board] sessions are not about news gathering for stories,” Rosenthal said.

It’s Trump trolling the other candidates like the Duke disavowal on CNN.
Trump just wanted to show he is Teflon Don and he won’t just bow to demands from the media.
He has a boring interview tape out there and refuses to bow to release it.

My initial reacction to this news on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. right in time for the news cycle before the debate was

Nearly every nasty lie-filled story I’ve seen in the past few days, involves someone from Romney’s old campaign staff, or Romney himself - like this one.
I don’t know I’m just a little peon but doesn’t off the record mean the tape is shut off.
Romney operative, Stuart Stevens....the same guy who was in on the smearing of MS Chris McDaniels, against Thad, has been all over the news shows, since the last debate....laying out exactly how they were going to attempt to take out Trump.
Romney’s fingers are all over these hit pieces.

THAT was a dirty trick.
Another dirty trick was pulling out slides the candidates had not seen or reviewed. Think in a courtroom a lawyer could pull that shit on the opposing side? Hell no. It was low-down and just plain not fair. VERY much the graphics/PowerPoint equivalent of "We have a diagram that shows you beat your wife but stopped--when did you stop beating your wife?"
The Fox panelists knew BEFORE the debate, yet maintained that line of questioning as though the boogered up lie was real.
Ahhhh! I did not know that. It is all starting to add up.
If the NY times told you there was nothing in a recording of Hillary, would you believe them?
Could be nothing at all. Might be complimentary.
Without them being released, we really will never know.
