They always have to buck the system. They all want to go down in history as the one who paved the way.
I think it's the self-loathing narcissist thing. They can't feel good about themselves unless they receive validation from everybody on the planet. Deep inside, they know their lifestyle is deviant. This gives them poor self esteem. So, they strive to make disapproval of their deviant lifestyle illegal. That way they can deride those who cast scornful looks their way and feel good about themselves.
