George (Cary Grant) and Marion (Constance Bennett) Kerby are as rich as they are irresponsible. When George wrecks their classy sports car, they wake up from the accident as ghosts. Realizing they aren’t in heaven or hell because they’ve never been responsible enough to do good deeds or bad ones, they decide that freeing their old friend Cosmo Topper (Roland Young) from his regimented lifestyle will be their ticket into heaven. (wikipedia)

Co-starring Billie Burke.

Fun, whimsical comedy. Grant and Bennett are very good together, and Roland Young is just great as the stuffy Mr. Topper. 7.5/10

How can one have time for a movie? I don’t have time to take a nap, and I should watch a movie?

Great stuff; very clever and a Big Fave at the Hammer household.

You are also rude by making snide comments on a thread someone was good enough to post for the enjoyment of others. There is a group here that like old movies and we enjoy the movies posted, and the thread.

The book was considered very risque for its day. The movie cleaned the plot up considerably.

The novel sure had a lot of boozing in it. And scantily-clad gals running around. I read it long, long ago. The sequel novel too. Risque, but no worse than a 1920s issue of “Captain Billy’s Whiz-Bang.”

Clean as the driven snow, compared to the insanity today.

Anne Jeffreys, who played Marian Kirby is still around. She’s in her 90s now.

Yep, and they remained married until his death, about ten or fifteen years ago. He was a bit of an early computer geek. I met Jeffreys several times. Always adored her. On “Topper,” when as Marian, she gets all flustered or excited about something, her Carolina accent would come out. Loved when that would happen.

What’s not to like about a film staring a martini loving St. Bernard?
