NASA's next cargo run to the International Space Station will be delayed for at least two weeks after black mold was found in two fabric bags used for packing clothing, food and other supplies, the U.S. space agency said on Wednesday.
The source of the mold, a common fungal growth in humid climates like Florida's, is under investigation by NASA and Lockheed Martin, which prepares NASA cargo for launch aboard two commercial carriers, Orbital ATK and privately owned SpaceX.
An Orbital Cygnus cargo ship was more than halfway packed for the launch, scheduled for March 10, when the mold was found during routine inspections and microbial sampling, NASA spokesman Daniel Huot said.
NASA and Lockheed decided to unpack the cargo, disinfect all the bags and then repack everything aboard the capsule, delaying launch.

May I suggest the end to this spending until we pay off the national debt? Who are we kidding here. WE ARE BROKE!!
Not to worry, Obama will sign an executive order denying the right to lift of black mold. Henceforth, no more black mold - problem solved!
Where is the threat? Just leave it be and go. How much money did the delay cost? I’ll bet the bureaucrats didn’t even add that up. Never crossed their minds, in fact.
Good thing they outlawed those nasty plastic space bags that were clogging up the space-fill.
The real problem is, for the last 46 years since the moon landing, there has been mold on NASA. ;-)
Sunlight and or bleach- sunlight is free Bleach approx. 1.99
Govt will spend 2 million interrogating the mold spores-
Black mold can kill you.
Kills most but not all. In space, one spore could contaminate the entire station.
“Good thing they outlawed those nasty plastic space bags that were clogging up the space-fill.”
I was thinking the same - looks like ‘reusable’ bags has made it to NASA...and brought the same problems up there.
“May I suggest the end to this spending until we pay off the national debt? Who are we kidding here. WE ARE BROKE!!”
We spend 100 times as much (at least) paying people to not work...that’s where our efforts should lie.
“The source of the mold, a common fungal growth in humid climates like Florida’s, is under investigation by NASA and Lockheed Martin”
Since NASA has now become a Muslim Outreach Program, perhaps it’s not mold but a sinister case of “Creeping Sharia”

/sarc? probably not for long.
Toxic black mold - Stachybotrys chartarum - is dangerous, true. But I saw no mention that this was the problem.
They sterilized the stuff before there was a problem.
Thanks - learned something new - no sarcasm
